why hair is falling too much - #37610

Aaliyah

I am worried about my hair situation... it's like every time I brush or wash my hair, I'm finding clumps of it everywhere! Thinking back, I noticed my hair started falling too much a few months ago, maybe after a really stressful period with work. I sometimes skip meals because I’m always in a rush, and I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I also tried some new shampoo, but then there were more strands on the floor, so I stopped using it. Could it be the product? I mean, I thought it was supposed to be all-natural and good for my hair, but like, what if I messed up my scalp or something? Along with the falling, I feel like the hair itself is getting thinner. My friends have said they noticed it too. I've been drinking more water and trying to add greens to my diet, but why hair is falling too much still troubles me! Is stress or bad eating habits really causing this, or could it be something else? Ugh, I feel kinda lost here. Any advice on what to do? Should I see someone or try some Ayurvedic remedies? I really wanna get my hair back to how it used to be, you know?

Hair fall like what you’re experiencing can be attributed to several factors, most notably stress and nutritional deficiencies, as well as potential reactions to hair products. Stress can indeed have a significant impact on hair health through a process known as telogen effluvium, where stress interrupts the normal cycle of hair growth, causing more hairs than usual to enter the shedding phase at once.

Your skipped meals and hectic lifestyle can also contribute majorly because poor nutrition weakens hair follicles. In Ayurveda, this situation might indicate an imbalance in your doshas, especially affecting the Pitta dosha, which governs hair health. When aggravated, Pitta can lead to symptoms like excessive hair fall and thinning.

First, it’s crucial to support your Agni (digestive fire) by having regular meals that include balanced nutrients. Begin your day with a wholesome breakfast like oatmeal or a fruit and nut blend to boost energy levels and provide vital nutrients. Ensuring that your meals include a good source of iron, protein, and essential vitamins is vital for hair health. Incorporate foods like spinach, chickpeas, lentils, almonds, and flax seeds, which are rich in nutrients beneficial to hair growth.

Related to hair care, using a gentle, Ayurvedic shampoo containing ingredients like Amla (Indian gooseberry) and Shikakai can be beneficial. These are known for strengthening hair roots and promoting growth. However, make sure to test any product on a small skin patch first to avoid irritating reactions.

Weekly oil massages with coconut or sesame oil can nourish the scalp, reduce tension, and balance Pitta. Massage gently with the fingertips to improve circulation and strengthen hair roots.

As the condition persists, despite changes in diet and product use, consulting a healthcare professional or Ayurvedic practitioner remains prudent. They can assess your prakriti and any dosha imbalances, providing tailored remedies. Additionally, if stress significantly impacts your life, incorporate stress-reducing activities such as yoga or meditation as part of your routine to harmonize the body and mind.

It sounds like your hair loss and thinning could be attributed to a combination of factors, including stress, dietary habits, and possibly even the shampoo you tried. In the Siddha-Ayurvedic tradition, hair health is closely linked to the balance of your doshas and the health of your sapta dhatus (seven tissue systems). Stress often aggravates Vata dosha, which can lead to hair loss. Additionally, skipping meals might contribute to a weakened Agni (digestive fire), affecting the nourishment of the dhatus, including rasa (plasma), rakta (blood), and asthi (bone, which includes hair).

Incorporate grounding and nourishing foods into your diet to pacify Vata, like sweet, oily, warming foods. Prioritize balanced meals rich in protein, healthy fats, and essential vitamins. Consider cooking with ghee, which is nourishing for the body and hair. Kean on including foods like almonds, seeds, leafy greens, and amla — a powerful Ayurvedic herb beneficial for hair.

To manage stress more effectively, consider integrating calming practices like yoga or pranayama into your routine. Consistent sleep patterns can also help balance your doshas and, subsequently, your hair health.

Regarding external treatments, a gentle scalp massage with warm coconut or sesame oil can improve circulation and hair strength. Avoid frequent washing or harsh styling products; these could further exacerbate Vata imbalance. If the problem persists, consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can assess your prakriti (natural constitution) and vikriti (current imbalance) for personalized recommendations.

If the hair loss intensifies or you notice other alarming symptoms, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any other underlying conditions.
