what are the side effects of masterbating - #38708

Dylan

I am really struggling to understand some things about my health lately, specifically around the topic of what are the side effects of masterbating. I mean, I always heard it’s pretty normal and most people do it, right? But I started to notice some changes in myself after becoming kinda more frequent with it, like feeling really tired all the time and even some anxiety? It’s weird, I just didn't think it could affect me like that. Last week, a friend mentioned that masterbating can lead to issues like mood swings or even changes in libido, and now I'm like, is that true? I thought it was all just myths or stuff that old people say. And like, sometimes, I feel ashamed or guilty after doing it, which honestly doesn’t help either. If I had to be real, I thought masterbating was just harmless fun, but now I’m wondering, what are the side effects of masterbating that might be affecting my daily life? Would love to hear if anyone else has felt this way, or if there's any way to manage these changes?? Maybe I’m overthinking, but it's kinda bothering me and I feel like I need some solid advice or something.

Masturbation is indeed a normal part of human sexuality and is generally considered safe when done in moderation. From an Ayurveda perspective, however, frequent or excessive masturbation can potentially disturb the balance of your doshas, particularly the Vata and Pitta doshas. This imbalance may lead to certain symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, or mood swings, as you’ve described.

The act of masturbation can stimulate the nervous system and, if overdone, may deplete your energy reserves or Ojas, which is considered the essence that maintains vitality and immunity in Ayurveda. The feeling of guilt or shame afterward could be a result of societal or personal beliefs surrounding the act itself, which further adds to mental stress.

To manage these effects, consider implementing the following recommendations:

1. Moderation: Aim to maintain balance by practicing moderation in your habits. Recognize when it might be influencing your energy levels or causing distress and try to adjust accordingly.

2. Dietary Considerations: Focus on nourishing foods that help restore Ojas and balance Vata and Pitta. Include grounding and cooling foods like ghee, milk, whole grains, and sweet fruits. They can stabilize your energy and promote calmness. Avoid excessive caffeine or spicy foods that aggravate Pitta dosha.

3. Routine and Lifestyle: Establish a regular routine or Dinacharya with consistent sleeping and waking times. Incorporate calming practices such as yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation, which are great for stabilizing Vata and soothing the mind.

4. Mindfulness: Practice mindfulness to understand underlying triggers or patterns. Acknowledge your feelings without harsh judgment, allowing guilt or shame to dissipate gradually.

5. Herbal Support: Ashwagandha is a beneficial herb for replenishing energy and reducing anxiety. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to see if this is appropriate for your individual constitution.

Observe how these changes influence your wellbeing, and please remember that it’s okay to seek further professional advice if necessary to address any concerns comprehensively.

Masturbation, in general, is a natural activity for many people, and often, it’s considered safe and even healthy. However, when done excessively or without proper awareness of one’s bodily rhythms, it can sometimes disrupt the balance of doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta. In the Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, this imbalance could be why you’re experiencing tiredness and anxiety.

Excessive masturbation may deplete Ojas, the vital essence that supports energy and immunity. Low levels of Ojas might lead to fatigue and mood swings. Anxiety can also result from disrupted Prana Vata, the energy responsible for mental activities. It’s crucial to observe if there’s any pattern or frequency contributing to these symptoms.

Feeling guilt or shame is also common if there’s a disconnect between personal or societal beliefs and this act. These emotions can heighten Vata, which might, in turn, amplify anxiety or restless thoughts.

To restore balance, consider these practical steps aligned with Siddha-Ayurvedic principles:

1. Moderation: Try to find a rhythm that feels balanced, respecting your own physical and mental state instead of pushing beyond your comfort.

2. Dietary Adjustments: Incorporate grounding foods that reduce Vata, such as warm cooked meals including ghee, spices like turmeric and ginger, and root vegetables.

3. Pranayama: Practice calming breathing exercises daily to stabilize Vata and soothe the mind. Nadi Shodhana, or alternate nostril breathing, can be especially beneficial.

4. Herbal Support: An herbal formula known as Ashwagandha may help restore your energy levels and support mental clarity by building Ojas.

5. Restorative Practices: Allow adequate rest, perhaps through yoga Nidra and oil massage with sesame oil., to calm the nervous system.

While these suggestions can help, if you notice persistent tiredness, anxiety, or any other severe symptoms, contacting a healthcare provider might be necessary. An imbalanced approach to masturbation, when overlooked, can sometimes reflect deeper emotional or behavioral patterns that might merit more dedicated attention, sometimes even beyond Ayurveda.
