Hair thinning, particularly at the front near the forehead, can be distressing, but Ayurveda offers several practical solutions. The primary focus is to balance the doshas, nourish the hair from within, and boost hair health. Your regular yoga practice already supports balance in body and mind, which is good foundation.
In Ayurveda, hair fall is often linked to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which is associated with heat and metabolism. To address this, consider incorporating cooling foods into your diet, like cucumber, watermelon, and leafy greens, which can help pacify Pitta. Avoid excessively spicy or oily foods, as they can aggravate the condition.
One effective home remedy involves the use of Bhringraj and Amla. These herbs are revered for their hair-strengthening and revitalizing properties. You can find them in oil form or as powders. If using oil, massage a few drops onto the scalp for about 10-15 minutes, ideally before bed, two to three times a week. This helps enhance circulation and nourish the hair roots. Let the oil soak overnight, then wash your hair with a gentle shampoo in the morning.
Aloe vera is another valuable ally. Its soothing properties are known to benefit hair health. Apply fresh aloe vera gel to your scalp once a week. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before rinsing. It’s cooling and can be especially beneficial for Pitta types.
Consuming a tablespoon of Triphala with warm water nightly can aid digestion and cleanse the body of toxins, supporting hair health indirectly by maintaining a balanced agni, or digestive fire.
For a more personalized approach, consider seeking guidance from an Ayurvedic practitioner who can tailor recommendations specifically for your Prakriti and condition. If your hair thinning persists or worsens, it might be wise to consult with a dermatologist to rule out any medical conditions that could be affecting your hair.
