Seeking Ayurvedic Solutions for Sleep Apnea and Dry Mouth - #44155
Hello, I am sleeping with my mouth open and I tend to wake up with my mouth very dry. I have been diagnosed with a very mild form of sleep apnea and have a deviated nasal septum. The ENT asked me to use a nasal spray which did not give me much relief. I do not want to resort to surgery. I have been advised a dental braceand while the dentist has taken measurments for this, she was not convinced that wull solve the problem. Does Ayurveda have a solution?

Ayurveda offers several approaches that can support sleep apnea and related symptoms like dry mouth by focusing on balancing the body’s doshas and improving nasal airflow. Considering your symptoms and nasal issues, addressing Kapha imbalance and improving Vata flow might be beneficial. A few steps might be helpful.
Firstly, practice nasya daily. Gently apply 2-3 drops of warm Anu taila or sesame oil into each nostril in the morning. This can help lubricate the nasal passages, improving breathing and reducing dryness. Be sure to keep your head tilted back for a couple of minutes after instilling the oil.
Perform regular steam inhalation. Boil water, adding a pinch of turmeric or a few drops of eucalyptus oil, and gently inhale the steam. This can help open clogged nasal passages, enhance breathing and prevent excess mucus build-up, limiting snoring and dry mouth.
Pay attention to your diet. Reduce intake of heavy, oily, cold foods that might aggravate Kapha. Focus on light, warming, and easily digestible meals, like soups or khichdi. Consider incorporating spices such as black pepper, ginger, and turmeric to aid digestion (agni) and promote a clear respiratory channel.
Incorporate pranayama, especially Nadi Shodhana and Kapalabhati, into your routine. These breathing exercises assist in clearing nasal passages and balancing Prana, thus aiding in reducing congestion and improving sleep quality.
Make lifestyle adjustments prioritizing regular sleep schedule. Elevate your head using another pillow, if needed, to facilitate easier breathing. Avoid lying on your back; sleeping on your side may reduce obstruction in your airways.
Consult an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized plan, considering your unique body constitution and specific needs. Always ensure any new practices align with existing treatments, and consult your healthcare provider especially if your condition worsens or doesn’t improve.
