Amylase Lipase Test

3 answers

A few days ago, my father was admitted to the hospital with severe stomach pain and nausea, and the doctors ordered an amylase lipase test. They said it was to check his pancreas, but they didn’t explain much about what these tests actually measure. I want to understand the significance of the amylase lipase test and what it reveals about digestive health. From what I’ve read, amylase and lipase are enzymes related to pancreatic function. If their levels are too high or too low, does it mean there’s a problem with the pancreas, or could it indicate other digestive issues? In my father’s case, the doctor suspected pancreatitis, but I also saw that these enzymes can be affected by gallbladder issues, liver problems, or even certain medications. Can diet and lifestyle affect amylase and lipase levels? For example, my father eats a lot of fried and heavy foods—could that have contributed to his high enzyme levels? Are there Ayurvedic ways to support pancreatic health naturally, like specific herbs or dietary changes? Doctor, could you explain the amylase lipase test in detail? What do different levels mean, and how can Ayurveda help manage or improve pancreatic function naturally? I want to ensure my father’s digestive health stays in balance and that we take preventive steps. Please share your insights.

The amylase lipase test measures the levels of two enzymes, amylase and lipase, which are primarily produced by the pancreas and play a key role in digestion. Amylase helps break down carbohydrates, while lipase is involved in the breakdown of fats. High levels of these enzymes typically indicate pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, but they can also signal other issues like gallbladder disease, liver problems, or even the effect of certain medications. Low levels of these enzymes are less common but could suggest pancreatic insufficiency. Diet and lifestyle, particularly a diet high in fried and fatty foods, can contribute to pancreatic stress, leading to enzyme imbalances. Ayurveda offers natural remedies for supporting pancreatic health, such as herbs like turmeric, ginger, Amla, and Giloy, which help reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and detoxify the liver and pancreas. Dietary changes like reducing heavy, fried foods and incorporating digestive-friendly herbs like cumin and fennel can support digestive function. Balancing Vata and Pitta doshas through lifestyle adjustments can also help maintain optimal pancreatic health.

How does diabetic treatment in Ayurveda work, and what are the best herbal remedies?

1 answers

I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and while I am managing it with diet and exercise, my sugar levels still fluctuate. I recently came across diabetic treatment in Ayurveda, which is said to focus on restoring insulin balance and improving metabolism. But I want to understand how effective it really is. From what I understand, Ayurveda treats diabetes (Madhumeha) by improving digestion, reducing sugar absorption, and strengthening pancreatic function. But which herbs and medicines are most effective for controlling blood sugar naturally? I’ve heard about Vijaysar, Madhunashini, and Chandraprabha Vati, but do they actually help in reducing sugar spikes and insulin resistance? I also want to know whether Ayurvedic diabetic treatments can be used alongside allopathic medicine or if they can eventually replace them. Has anyone successfully managed their diabetes using Ayurveda? What treatments, dietary changes, or herbs worked best for you?

Ayurvedic treatment for type 2 diabetes, or Madhumeha, focuses on improving digestion, enhancing metabolism, and balancing insulin function by addressing the root causes of the condition. Herbs like Vijaysar, Madhunashini, and Jamun are known for their ability to help regulate blood sugar by enhancing insulin sensitivity and improving pancreatic function. Chandraprabha Vati is also commonly used to support the kidneys and help with sugar metabolism. These herbs, combined with a balanced diet and lifestyle adjustments, can effectively reduce sugar spikes and insulin resistance. Ayurvedic treatments can often complement allopathic medications, and in some cases, may help reduce dependence over time. However, it is important to work closely with both an Ayurvedic practitioner and your primary healthcare provider to ensure a safe and holistic approach. Many have successfully managed their blood sugar with Ayurveda by focusing on digestion, metabolism, and the use of supportive herbs.

What Are the Best Home Remedies for Depression That Provide Long-Term Emotional Balance?

2 answers

I have been struggling with depression, mood swings, and chronic stress, and while therapy and lifestyle changes help, I want to explore home remedies for depression that focus on natural healing and emotional stability. However, I am unsure which Ayurvedic and holistic approaches work best for mental well-being. Some of the most commonly recommended natural remedies for depression include Brahmi, which is said to improve mental clarity and emotional resilience, Ashwagandha, which helps in lowering cortisol levels and reducing stress, Jatamansi, which calms the nervous system, and oil massages like Shirodhara, where warm herbal oil is poured on the forehead for deep relaxation. Many experts also suggest following a sattvic diet, practicing yoga, and engaging in meditation for emotional balance. However, I want to understand whether these remedies offer lasting relief or only temporary mood improvements. For those who have used home remedies for depression, what worked best for reducing anxiety, improving emotional stability, and achieving a positive mindset? Would love insights into the best Ayurvedic and holistic approaches for mental well-being and whether they provided long-term emotional healing.

Ayurvedic and holistic approaches can be effective for managing depression and promoting long-term mental well-being. Here are the most recommended remedies: Ayurvedic Remedies for Depression Brahmi: Enhances mental clarity, reduces anxiety, and supports emotional resilience. Ashwagandha: Lowers cortisol, balances mood, and reduces chronic stress. Jatamansi: Calms the nervous system, promotes emotional stability, and aids in better sleep. Holistic Approaches for Mental Well-Being Sattvic Diet: A clean, plant-based diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains promotes mental clarity and emotional balance. Meditation: Daily meditation reduces negative thought patterns and fosters a positive mindset. Effectiveness Many users report improved emotional stability, reduced anxiety, and long-term relief with consistent use of these remedies. However, they require regular practice for lasting benefits rather than temporary mood improvements.

Haridra Khanda Side Effects

1 answers

I’ve been considering trying Haridra Khanda for my persistent allergies, especially skin rashes and itching. It seems like a well-known Ayurvedic formulation, but I’m worried about Haridra Khanda side effects. Does anyone know if Haridra Khanda is completely safe, or are there specific issues I should watch out for? My allergies usually flare up during seasonal changes, and I’ve tried everything from antihistamines to herbal teas, but the relief is temporary. A friend recommended Haridra Khanda because it’s supposed to work well for skin allergies and improve overall immunity. However, since my digestion is a bit sensitive, I’m concerned if Haridra Khanda side effects could include stomach upset or bloating. I’ve read that Haridra Khanda contains turmeric as a key ingredient, but it’s mixed with sugar and ghee, which makes me wonder if it’s suitable for someone like me who is trying to manage weight. Are there any specific Haridra Khanda side effects related to long-term use, such as increased blood sugar levels or dependency on the formulation? Another concern is whether Haridra Khanda is safe for children or elderly individuals. My niece also suffers from skin allergies, and I was thinking of recommending it to her parents, but I don’t want to take risks without knowing the potential side effects. Is it better to consult an Ayurvedic doctor first, or can it be taken as a general remedy? If anyone has used Haridra Khanda for allergies or other issues, please share your experience. Did you notice any Haridra Khanda side effects, or was it effective without any problems? I’d also appreciate advice on how to take it—whether with water, milk, or on an empty stomach—for the best results. Thanks in advance!

Haridra Khanda, a popular Ayurvedic formulation, is often recommended for skin allergies and boosting immunity due to its key ingredient, turmeric, along with sugar and ghee. While it is generally safe for most people, it can have some side effects, especially if you have a sensitive digestive system. The sugar and ghee content may cause digestive discomfort, bloating, or weight-related concerns if taken in excess. For those with sensitive stomachs or concerns about blood sugar levels, it’s important to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to adjust the dosage or consider alternatives. Long-term use should be monitored, especially for people with diabetes or those trying to manage weight. Haridra Khanda is typically safe for children and elderly individuals when prescribed by a qualified doctor, but always consult a professional before using it. It is usually taken with warm water or milk, and it’s best to follow a doctor’s advice regarding the dosage and timing to avoid any adverse effects.

What Is the Best Ayurvedic Cough Medicine (आयुर्वेदिक खांसी की दवा)?

1 answers

I have been suffering from cough for the past few days, and I want to try an Ayurvedic medicine instead of chemical-based syrups. I am looking for the best आयुर्वेदिक खांसी की दवा (Ayurvedic cough medicine) that can provide natural relief without side effects. One of the most recommended Ayurvedic medicines I found is Patanjali Swasari Pravahi. Many people say that it helps with dry and wet cough and soothes throat irritation. Has anyone tried this? How long does it take to see results? I also read that Dabur Honitus syrup is one of the most effective Ayurvedic cough remedies. Since it contains honey, tulsi, mulethi, and other herbs, does it provide quick relief from throat irritation and congestion? Also, is it safe for children? Another option I came across is Zandu Zefs cough syrup, which is said to be effective for chronic and dry cough. Does it work better than home remedies like ginger, honey, and tulsi tea? Also, should it be taken before bedtime to prevent nighttime coughing? Some people also recommend Kofol Ayurvedic Cough Syrup, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and soothing effects. Does this work better for dry cough or wet cough? Also, does it cause drowsiness like some allopathic cough syrups? Lastly, I read that some Ayurvedic medicines for cough contain mulethi, vasaka, and sitopaladi churna, which are great for clearing the throat and reducing cough symptoms. Are there any homemade Ayurvedic remedies that work just as well as these syrups? If anyone has tried an आयुर्वेदिक खांसी की दवा (Ayurvedic cough medicine), please share your experience! I’d love to know which one works best for fast and natural relief.

For Ayurvedic cough relief, Patanjali Swasari Pravahi is a popular choice as it helps with both dry and wet cough by reducing throat irritation and clearing mucus. Many people report relief within 2–3 days of regular use, but results vary based on the severity of the cough. It is generally taken twice a day after meals for the best effect. Dabur Honitus syrup, made with honey, tulsi, mulethi, and other herbs, is known for its quick soothing effect on throat irritation and congestion. It is safe for children in small doses, but it is always best to check the recommended dosage based on age. Another effective option is Zandu Zefs Cough Syrup, which is particularly useful for chronic and dry cough. It can be taken before bedtime to prevent nighttime coughing and ensure better sleep. For a more herbal approach, Kofol Ayurvedic Cough Syrup is effective due to its anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties, working well for both dry and wet cough without causing drowsiness. Many Ayurvedic cough remedies also include mulethi, vasaka, and sitopaladi churna, which can be taken as homemade herbal teas mixed with honey and ginger for similar benefits.

What Are the Best Ways to Stop Dry Cough Immediately, and How Do They Work?

1 answers

I’ve been dealing with a dry cough that just won’t go away, and I’m looking for methods to stop it immediately. What are the best ways to stop dry cough immediately, and how do these remedies provide quick relief? I’ve heard that honey, ginger, and lemon can help relieve a dry cough. How do these natural ingredients work to soothe the throat, reduce irritation, and stop coughing? How should these remedies be used for fast relief—should honey be taken on its own or mixed with other ingredients like warm water or ginger juice? I’ve also read that steam inhalation with essential oils like peppermint or eucalyptus can help clear the throat and reduce coughing. How effective is this method, and how frequently should it be used? Lastly, are there any lifestyle habits or preventive measures I can adopt to avoid a recurring dry cough, especially during allergy season?

To stop a dry cough immediately, remedies like honey, ginger, and lemon are effective in soothing the throat and reducing irritation. Honey has natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which help coat the throat, reducing the coughing reflex. Mixing a teaspoon of honey with warm water or ginger juice can provide fast relief. Ginger, with its anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties, helps to clear congestion and calm the throat, while lemon adds vitamin C and acts as a natural antiseptic. Steam inhalation with essential oils like peppermint or eucalyptus can effectively clear the airways, soothe the throat, and reduce coughing. This method can be done 2-3 times a day. To prevent recurring dry cough, avoid exposure to allergens, keep the throat hydrated, and use a humidifier if the air is dry, especially during allergy seasons. Incorporating herbal teas like ginger-tulsi or turmeric milk can further strengthen the immune system and prevent throat irritation.

What Is the Nutritional Value of Mustard Oil?

2 answers

Mustard oil is a popular cooking oil, especially in Indian and South Asian cuisines, but I’d like to understand its full nutritional profile and how it compares to other oils. Can someone explain the nutritional value of mustard oil and how it contributes to overall health? From what I’ve read, mustard oil is rich in healthy fats, including monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). How do these fats help with heart health and lowering cholesterol levels? Does mustard oil reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, and how does it compare to other oils like olive or sunflower oil in terms of heart health? Mustard oil is also known for its high omega-3 content, which is essential for reducing inflammation and supporting brain health. How effective is it for improving cognitive function and reducing the risk of chronic diseases like arthritis or Alzheimer’s? I’ve heard that mustard oil contains a good amount of vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant. How does this benefit skin health, and can mustard oil help reduce wrinkles or improve the appearance of scars? Additionally, mustard oil is said to have antimicrobial properties, which can help fight infections and boost immunity. How effective is it for these purposes, and can it be used topically for skin infections or wounds? I’m curious about its smoking point as well. Mustard oil has a relatively high smoking point, making it suitable for frying and cooking at high temperatures. Is it safe to use mustard oil for everyday cooking, or are there health risks associated with heating it? Lastly, are there any downsides to using mustard oil regularly? Could it cause issues like skin irritation, digestive discomfort, or high erucic acid intake? If anyone has experience using mustard oil regularly, please share your insights. Did it improve your health, and would you recommend it for cooking or skincare? Any tips for maximizing its health benefits would be greatly appreciated.

Mustard oil is rich in healthy fats, including monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), which help improve heart health by lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is comparable to olive oil in heart health benefits but has a higher omega-3 content, which supports brain function and reduces inflammation, making it beneficial for conditions like arthritis or Alzheimer's. Mustard oil also contains vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant, benefiting skin health by reducing wrinkles and improving scars. Its antimicrobial properties make it effective for skin infections and boosting immunity, and it can be used topically for these purposes. With a high smoking point, mustard oil is safe for frying and high-heat cooking. However, excessive use may cause skin irritation or digestive discomfort in some people. It's best to use it in moderation and avoid high erucic acid intake. If you use mustard oil regularly, it may improve your health, but it's important to be mindful of your body's response and adjust accordingly.

What is Immunity

1 answers

I get sick way too often, and it's really frustrating. Every few weeks, it’s either a cold, a sore throat, or some kind of stomach issue. It’s not like I don’t take care of myself—I eat fairly well, try to exercise, and sleep at least 7 hours most nights. But still, I seem to catch every bug that goes around. I started wondering—what is immunity really, and why does mine seem so weak? Doctors always say, “Oh, just take vitamins,” but I’ve been doing that for years, and nothing has changed. I recently got a blood test done, and everything was mostly normal, but my white blood cell count was a bit on the lower side. Does that mean my immune system is actually weak, or is there another reason I keep falling sick? I started reading about Ayurveda and how it looks at health from a more holistic perspective. Instead of just popping supplements, I want to understand what is immunity from an Ayurvedic point of view. I’ve heard that digestion plays a big role in immunity. Is it true that poor gut health can make the immune system weak? I do have bloating and acid reflux from time to time, so maybe that’s connected? Also, I’ve read about things like Chyawanprash and Ashwagandha, but how do they actually work to improve immunity? Do I need to take them daily, or only when I feel sick? Another thing I’m curious about—stress. I know I stress a lot because of work, but can that really affect immunity? If so, what are some Ayurvedic ways to manage stress naturally? And does Ayurveda offer any permanent solutions to build strong immunity, or is it just about managing symptoms? I just want to feel stronger and not have to worry about getting sick all the time. If anyone has tried Ayurveda to boost their immunity, please share what worked for you.

Immunity in Ayurveda is closely related to the concept of ojas, which represents the vitality and strength of tissues that support overall health. Your experience of frequent illness can indeed be linked to weakened digestion (agni) and poor gut health, both of which significantly impact ojas and, consequently, your immune system. Bloating and acid reflux suggest that your agni may be disturbed, leading to improper digestion and absorption of nutrients, which can contribute to a weakened immune response. To strengthen your immunity, consider adopting a dietary regimen that enhances digestion. Start by incorporating warm, cooked foods which are easier to digest, and avoid heavy, cold, or processed foods that can aggravate your symptoms. Focus on light meals that include spices like ginger, cumin, and turmeric which are known to aid digestion and bolster immune function. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can also improve your digestion. Chyawanprash is a traditional Ayurvedic jam rich in herbs and nutrients that revitalizes and strengthens the immune system. You can take about one teaspoon daily, preferably in the morning, mixed with warm milk or water. Ashwagandha, a powerful adaptogen, helps the body manage stress and improve energy levels. It can be taken daily, about half a teaspoon mixed with warm milk or water, which can help to reduce stress and bolster your resilience. Given your stress concerns, incorporating daily practices such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises can be profoundly beneficial. Simple yet effective techniques like Savasana or Pranayama can reduce stress and improve mental clarity, contributing to better overall health. Herbal teas made from Tulsi (holy basil) can also alleviate stress and promote harmony in the body. For a holistic approach, consider regularly detoxifying with gentle methods like Kitchari cleanses to help reset your digestion. Ensure you also get adequate rest and practice gratitude or mindfulness to nurture emotional well-being. Building immunity is a gradual process that involves lifestyle changes, so consistency and patience are key. Integrating these practices can empower you to promote deeper health and reduce the frequency of illness over time, moving towards a more resilient state of being.

Pancoast tumor – Can Ayurveda provide supportive care for lung cancer?

2 answers

A close family member was recently diagnosed with a Pancoast tumor, a rare type of lung cancer that grows near the upper part of the lungs. The doctors said it’s in a tricky location and may require a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and possibly surgery. While we are following the recommended medical treatments, we are also looking for natural ways to support his immune system and overall health during this difficult time. I started looking into Ayurveda to see if it offers supportive care for cancer patients, especially for lung-related conditions like a Pancoast tumor. Does Ayurveda have any herbs or therapies that can help strengthen the lungs, reduce side effects of chemotherapy, and improve overall vitality? I read that Tulsi, Ashwagandha, and Guduchi are known for their immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties—would these be safe to use alongside medical treatments? Also, does Ayurveda recommend specific dietary changes to support lung health and detoxify the body? If anyone has used Ayurveda as a complementary approach for cancer care, I’d love to hear what worked for them!

In Ayurveda, a Pancoast tumor, like other lung-related conditions, is seen as an imbalance of Kapha and Vata doshas, leading to obstruction and weakened vitality. While conventional treatment is essential, Ayurveda can provide supportive care to strengthen immunity, reduce side effects of chemotherapy, and promote lung health. Herbs like Tulsi, Ashwagandha, and Guduchi help boost immunity, combat inflammation, and support overall resilience. Sitopaladi Churna and Vasaka may aid in clearing lung congestion and improving breathing. A light, warm diet with easily digestible foods, turmeric-infused milk, and fresh fruits can help detoxify and nourish the body. Gentle Pranayama and oil massages can improve circulation and relaxation. Always consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure compatibility with ongoing medical treatments.

About Dr. Harsha Joy
A massive thank you to Dr. Harsha and this forum, honestly, I still can’t believe I’m finally better. For years I was dealing with this awful pain in my lower back and hips, especially when I sat for more than 10 minutes. It felt like someone stabbing me over and over. I couldn’t work properly, couldn’t enjoy family dinners, even short car rides were unbearable. I tried so many things—physiotherapy, meds, chiropractors, acupuncture, even weird devices that claimed to fix back pain. Nothing worked. I was so frustrated and kind of gave up, thinking maybe this is just my life now. Then, randomly one night, I found this forum. I didn’t expect much but thought I’d give it a try. Dr. Harsha replied to my question, and honestly, her response felt so personal. She explained everything clearly how my problem might be connected to imbalances in my body and not just something physical. She gave me a plan: some yoga stretches, herbal oils for massage, and a few Ayurvedic supplements. She even suggested small lifestyle changes, like how to sit better and take regular breaks during the day. I didn’t think it would work, but after a couple of weeks, I started to notice the pain easing. Sitting didn’t hurt as much, and my back felt looser. Over the next couple of months, the pain kept getting better. Now, I can sit through a whole day at work, go out with friends, and even travel without worrying about pain. Dr. Harsha, you’ve honestly changed my life. Thank you so much for your help and to this forum for connecting me with her!

About Dr Sujal Patil
A huge thank you to Dr. Sujal and this amazing forum! I honestly never thought I’d find relief from the problem I was dealing with for so long. For years, I struggled with terrible digestive issues bloating, stomach cramps, and this constant feeling of heaviness after every meal. It didn’t matter what I ate, even the so-called “healthy” stuff would mess me up. Some days I’d feel fine, and then the next, I’d be in so much discomfort I couldn’t even focus on work or enjoy time with my family. I tried everything antacids, probiotics, different diets, cutting out foods one by one nothing worked for more than a week or two. Doctors just kept saying it was IBS and gave me more meds, but I was tired of taking pills that didn’t actually fix anything. Then I randomly came across this forum, while scrolling late at night looking for help. I posted my story, not really expecting much, but Dr. Sujal replied, and wow, I’m so glad she did. Her advice was so practical and made sense in a way no one else had explained before. She said my issues could be related to weak digestion and recommended a complete Ayurvedic approach to strengthen it. She suggested drinking warm water with a bit of ginger and lemon first thing in the morning, avoiding cold or raw foods, and eating lighter meals in the evening. She also told me to use some herbal powders like Trikatu to boost my digestion and add a few specific spices like cumin and fennel to my cooking. She even taught me some breathing exercises to help calm my gut when I felt stressed. Within a week of following her plan, I started feeling lighter, and my bloating reduced significantly. Over the next month, the cramps completely stopped, and I could eat meals without that horrible heavy feeling afterward. I honestly can’t believe how much better I feel now, and I haven’t touched an antacid in weeks! Dr. Sujal, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You didn’t just help me heal physically but also gave me confidence that I can manage my health naturally. This forum is a blessing, and I’m so glad I found it!
