Doctors’ responses

Dr. Meenakshi
I am currently working as an Associate Professor and Ayurvedic Consultant at a reputed Ayurvedic medical college in Karnataka. My dual role in academics and clinical practice allows me to stay deeply connected with both the foundational principles of Ayurveda and their real-world application in patient care. With years of experience in teaching and treating patients, I have developed a strong grounding in classical Ayurvedic texts as well as hands-on expertise in managing a wide spectrum of health conditions. In my academic role, I am involved in mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, guiding them through theoretical understanding, clinical training, and practical application of Ayurvedic medicine. I actively participate in departmental research, workshops, and case discussions, fostering a learning environment that emphasizes both scientific inquiry and traditional wisdom. As a consultant, I provide holistic Ayurvedic care for chronic lifestyle disorders, musculoskeletal problems, women’s health issues, gastrointestinal diseases, and skin disorders. My treatment plans are deeply personalized, based on a thorough assessment of Prakriti (body constitution) and Vikriti (imbalance), integrating herbal medicine, Panchakarma therapies, dietary advice, and preventive health strategies. I strongly believe in the importance of patient education and preventive care. Whether I am managing a complex condition or offering day-to-day wellness support, my aim is always to treat the root cause and promote long-term healing. I also collaborate with fellow practitioners and students to stay updated with advancements in Ayurvedic research and contribute meaningfully to the field. My commitment lies in offering authentic, evidence-based, and compassionate Ayurvedic care while nurturing the next generation of Ayurveda professionals with the same values.

In dealing with stage III brain tumor, it’s important to be realistic about what Ayurveda can do and what medical treatments are absolutely necessary. Ayurveda can be an excellent complementary way, supporting your body's recovery and maintaining quality of life alongside the medical treatments you are already undergoing but not a complete replacement for conventional medical approaches. In Ayurveda, the balance of doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) is crucial, but given the severity of a brain tumor, ongoing medical advice from your oncologist remains primary. However, ayurvedic practices can supplement by helping to balance your overall doshas and support mind-body wellness. Begin by focusing on lifestyle and diet to strengthen your Ojas, which is the source of vitality and immunity. Dietwise, it’s crucial to follow a sattvic diet, rich in fresh, wholesome foods. Incorporate more whole grains like quinoa and barley, fresh fruits, vegetables, but try to avoid processed or heavy-to-digest foods. Focus on easily digestible meals to ensure your agni, or digestive fire, is balanced and doesn’t convert into ama, or toxicity, in the body. Herbs such as Ashwagandha and Giloy can be supportive, provided they are consumed in consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor. They aid in boosting immunity, managing stress and improving strength. A specific tonic called Brahmi Ghrita can be supportive for the brain and neurological health, but must be taken under supervision. Ensure there's rejuvenating practices like Yoga or Pranayama, which can not only soothe the mind but help oxygenate your cells. Gentle yoga postures will assist in improving circulation, and Pranayama—breathing exercises—will enhance mental clarity and reduce stress. Never neglect your follow-up appointment, and do discuss these integrative approaches with your medical provider to ensure safety. The priority is your well-being, so any ayurvedic practices should be supportive to medical treatment rather than replacing it. Stay informed and closely work with both your oncologist and ayurvedic practitioner on a complementary care plan tailored to your situation.
