Is triphala churna causing more constipation instead of helping digestion? - #22644

Evelyn

I am really struggling with my digestion lately, and a friend suggested I try the best triphala churna. So I did, like I thought it would help with my bloating and those occasional tummy cramps. But honestly, I'm not sure if I'm using the right one, or if there's a better option out there. I’ve been taking it for about a week, but it seems like I'm getting more constipated than before. Is the best triphala churna supposed to do that? I read that it can detox or something, but right now I just want to feel normal again! Should I be eating it with something, or taking it in a different way? Any advice would be super helpful!

Triphala churna is a traditional Ayurvedic blend known for its balancing effects on digestion and its ability to support detoxification. Typically, it’s used to enhance digestive health, promote regular bowel movements, and support detoxification. However, occasionally individuals might experience an opposite effect, like constipation, which could mean a few things.

Firstly, it may be possible that your doshic constitution or current imbalance isn’t aligned with the cooling and cleansing nature of Triphala. If you are experiencing more Vata-related symptoms such as dry stools, bloating, and constipation, Triphala can sometimes exacerbate these issues if not taken properly or without balance if there’s already a Vata imbalance present.

As a practical suggestion, try taking Triphala churna with warm water or milk before bedtime. This may help mitigate the drying effects that can sometimes occur when taken without proper anupana (vehicle). It’s important to ensure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day as well. For Vata types, or those experiencing constipation, taking Triphala with a teaspoon of honey or ghee might be beneficial as it provides the necessary lubrication.

Beyond that, emphasis should be placed on your dosha and agni (digestive fire). Focus on a Vata-balancing diet—cooked, warm, mildly spiced foods that are easy to digest. Incorporating warm beverages, like plain hot water or cumin coriander fennel tea, can help maintain digestive warmth and support in alleviating constipation.

Lastly, consider your lifestyle factors that could be impacting digestion, such as stress or irregular meal patterns, and make adjustments as needed. However, if the problem persists or worsens, it may be advisable to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can offer a more personalized approach suited to your individual health needs.

If the discomfort is significantly affecting your life or worsening, do seek medical advice without delay. Balancing health is critical and should not be delayed, especially when persistent symptoms arise.
