Keratoconus can be quite challenging, especially with symptoms like dryness, halos, and vision distortion even post-surgery. Ayurveda, with its holistic approach, may provide some support in managing these symptoms. Let's dive into it. When focusing on eye health, in Ayurveda, attention is given to the form and function of the doshas, particularly Pitta. Excess Pitta, especially in the Ranjaka subtype, can affect the eyes. To help balance this, managing your diet and lifestyle is essential. Incorporate cooling foods like cucumber, melons, and leafy greens that help pacify Pitta. Avoiding spicy, salty, and sour foods might also benefit your condition as these can aggravate Pitta. Hydration is key. Consuming herbal teas made from fennel or coriander ccould help with dryness. You can also take a teaspoon of Triphala powder at night with warm water as Triphala is known for its eye rejuvenating properties. Since you mentioned dry eyes, consider using natural eye washes with Triphala water. Boil a teaspoon of Triphala in a cup of water, strain it well, and cool it. Use this to cleanse your eyes every morning. Regularly practice Nasya, which involves applying a few drops of Anu Taila or sesame oil into each nostril. This not only helps with eye dryness but also supports better vision. Engage in daily eye exercises like Trataka, a gazing practice that may help with focusing, though do consult with a qualified practitioner before starting. Protecting eyes from harsh light is crucial, so wearing sunglasses when outdoors is a smart move. Consulting a professional Ayurvedic practitioner before implementing these suggestions alongside existing treatments is essential. While Ayurveda can support certain symptoms, it should not replace any ongoing medical treatments or procedures advised by your ophthalmologist.
