Doctors' responses

It sounds like you’re dealing with a persistent fungal infection, especially since you’ve mentioned some whitish discoloration and frequent itching. In Ayurveda, such issues are often linked to imbalances in the doshas, particularly an increase in Kapha and Pitta, which can disrupt the natural balance of the skin’s ecosystem.

First, consider addressing your diet. Reducing foods that increase Kapha, such as dairy, sugar, and oily foods, may be beneficial. Incorporate more bitter, astringent, and pungent foods, like leafy greens, turmeric, and ginger. These can help manage the excess Kapha and Pitta.

Topical application of anti-fungal ingredients can be very helpful. Prepare a paste using neem powder and a little bit of turmeric, add some rosewater to form a thick paste. Apply this directly to the affected area for its antifungal and soothing properties. Leave it on for about 30 minutes and then rinse it off gently with lukewarm water, twice a day.

Herbal remedies also have their place. You might want to consider taking Triphala, which helps cleanse the body, and Guduchi, known for its immune-boosting properties. But remember to consult a practitioner before starting any new supplement, especially if you’re taking other medications.

Aerate the area by wearing loose, breathable clothing made of natural fibers like cotton, to reduce sweating, which aggravates fungal conditions. Try to keep the area dry, which can include gentle dabbing with a clean towel after washing.

It’s vital to avoid any harsh rubbing, even though itching may tempt you. Rubbing can exacerbate the irritation and spread the infection further. Similarly, maintaining proper hygiene without over-washing is essential, as it can strip the skin of its natural oils.

If there’s no significant improvement, you might still require oral anti-fungal medication under the guidance of an ayurvedic specialist or continue with conventional treatments that provide relief. Though Ayurveda can offer significant support, ongoing medical treatment could still be needed in chronic or severe cases.
