Finding moderate fluid in the pouch of Douglas (POD) during an ultrasound can sometimes be normal, but it can also be associated with certain conditions, especially when PCOS is also a factor. In Ayurveda, we aim to balance the doshas and strengthen the body’s natural ability to heal.

With PCOS and fluid in POD, we focus on balancing the aggravated Kapha dosha and improving Agni (digestive fire), which are often involved in such conditions. Begin by incorporating a diet that is light, warm and Kapha-pacifying. Integrate foods like barley, millet, and grains instead of wheat. Limit dairy and processed sugars to help reduce Kapha. Include spices like ginger, cinnamon, and turmeric, which can help boost metabolism and support digestion.

There are some Ayurvedic herbs you might consider, under the guidance of a qualified practitioner, to address fluid retention and manage PCOS symptoms. Guggulu is one such herb, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and can assist in reducing edema. Ashwagandha may also be beneficial in balancing hormones and reducing stress. Shatavari can help in nourishing the reproductive system.

Practice daily oil massages (abhyanga) with warm sesame oil, which can help stimulate the lymphatic system and reduce fluid retention. Engage in regular exercise such as brisk walking or yoga to improve circulation and metabolism. Focus on poses like Balasana (Child’s pose) and Bhujangasana (Cobra pose) which gently massage the abdominal area.

It’s always wise to have a detailed consultation with an Ayurvedic physician to personalize these guidelines. If the fluid in POD persists, worsen or is accompanied by pain, it would be vital to follow up with a healthcare provider to ensure there’s no underlying complication requiring immediate attention.
