how to consume shilajit - #23207

Skylar

I am really curious about how to consume shilajit, but honestly, I feel a bit lost. So, I recently started taking it because a friend raved about its benefits, especially for energy. But now, I'm wondering if I'm doing it right. I just kind of mixed some with warm water, but am I supposed to take it on an empty stomach or with food? Also, I heard it can be strong if taken wrong, and I've been feeling slightly nauseous after taking it sometimes. Should I be concerned, or is this normal? I can't seem to find clear answers on how to consume shilajit properly! What’s the best way really?

Shilajit can indeed provide a range of benefits but taking it correctly is key to ensure you receive those benefits without any discomfort. The way you consume shilajit can affect how it interacts with your body, so let’s break it down a bit. Typically, it's advised to take shilajit on an empty stomach first thing in the morning or at least two hours after a meal. Mixing a small amount, about the size of a grain of rice, with warm water or milk is a good start, and this can help in the absorption. If you feel mild nausea, which can happen, you might want to start with an even smaller amount and gradually increase as your body adjusts. Nausea might also suggest your agni, or digestive fire, could be imbalanced, either too strong or too weak. If you continue experiencing issues, consider taking it with a spoonful of honey, which can help in easing digestion. Make sure also that you're hydrating well throughout the day, as shilajit can sometimes have a slightly drying effect on some people. Shilajit is strong in nature due to its rich mineral content, so recognizing what dosage feels right for you is important. Always listen to your body - if nausea persists or worsens, it might mean shilajit isn’t suiting your current dosha balance or health condition, and it may be best to pause and consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner. Remember, quality also matters. Using a pure and high-quality shilajit from a reputable source ensures you get an authentic product. And if you’re taking any other medications or supplements, it’s wise to check for any interactions. Ultimately, proper dosing and timing can make a substantial difference, so experiment with these suggestions and see if they bring any improvement. Each person’s needs can vary, so personalizing your approach based on your body's feedback is always ideal in Ayurveda.
