is shilajit safe - #23570

Jaxon

I am really trying to figure out if shilajit is safe after hearing a ton of different things. Last month, I started taking this supplement because I read it can help with energy levels and overall health. Honestly, I felt a little more energetic for the first week, but then I started having these weird stomach issues. Like, I wouldn't say it's exactly pain, but more like discomfort and I’m not sure if it’s from shilajit or something else I ate. My friend who recommended it says she has been fine, and then I read online about all the benefits of shilajit, but now I’m worried. Some articles say it might not be safe if you have certain conditions or take other meds. How do I know if shilajit is safe for me? Should I just stop it altogether? I mean, I don’t wanna risk anything bad just for some more energy, right? I’ve been cautious about supplements before but this whole shilajit thing is making me unsure. Thoughts?

If you're experiencing stomach discomfort after starting shilajit, it's wise to evaluate whether it's the cause. Shilajit, a mineral pitch derived from mountainous regions, has been used in Ayurveda for centuries and renowned for boosting energy, enhancing vitality, and promoting overall wellness. However, as with any supplement, individual responses can vary widely. Some people may indeed experience digestive issues or other side effects. In Ayurveda, the suitability of a substance like shilajit often depends on one's unique constitution or prakriti (vata, pitta, kapha) and existing dosha imbalances. If you naturally have a sensitive digestive system, or an imbalance that makes the stomach more prone to discomfort, shilajit may exacerbate these symptoms, particularly in higher doses. First step—pause its use and observe if your symptoms improve. If they do, it might be a sign your body isn't tolerating shilajit well. Gain insights into your current state of health, considering factors like your digestive fire (agni) and potential food interactions. Is the extraction and preparation of shilajit you're using from a reputable source? Quality can affect safety and potency. If you decide to reintroduce it later, start with a very small amount. Monitor how you react internally and externally over a few days. Meanwhile, consult an Ayurvedic practitioner who could assess your doshas, and recommend whether shilajit aligns with your constitution and any ongoing health concerns. Furthermore, be cautious about drug interactions. If you are on other medications or have underlying health conditions, particularly of the heart, digestive tract, or are pregnant, certain safety concerns must be addressed. Generally, if any supplement, including shilajit, causes discomfort or worry, it’s best prioritized consulting with your healthcare provider. Energy levels shouldn't come at the cost of discomfort or anxiety about your health. Stay safe!
