is lassi good for acidity - #23802

Aaliyah

I am really confused about my stomach problems lately. I've been having super bad acidity issues after meals… like, it gets so uncomfortable that I can barely focus on anything! Friend told me that lassi could help with acidity and even that it's refreshing. But like, I’m a bit skeptical, you know? I love lassi – the mango kind especially, yum! – but I’ve also heard that dairy isn't great for everyone. My doctor said to avoid spicy food, which I have, and I thought maybe lassi could be a good alternative instead. I just don’t want to make things worse! If lassi is good for acidity, how should I drink it? Like, can I have it every day? Do I need to pair it with certain foods or avoid others? I'm just looking for some advice here because this acidity thing is really getting me down! Thanks!

Lassi can indeed be helpful for acidity issues, but a few things to consider first. Lassi, especially the plain or jeera (cumin) version, is cooling and can effectively pacify pitta dosha, which is often the root of acidity imbalance in Ayurveda. Fermented milk products like lassi helps soothe inflamed gastric mucosa, alleviating that uncomfortable burning sensation. Also, its lactic acid bacteria aids digestion, potentially helping manage your symptoms. However, flavoured lassis like mango might actually aggravate acidity due to the fruit sugars and potential additives. Best to stick to plain lassi, possibly homemade, to ensure purity and effectiveness. You can even add a pinch of roasted cumin powder or dry ginger to boost its digestive benefits, enhancing its cooling properties. So, how to go about including it in your diet? Well, it's best to consume lassi about 30 minutes after lunch when agni (digestive fire) is naturally stronger. This timing aids digestion and allows lassi to harmonize with existing digestive processes, creating less discomfort. Drinking small amounts regularly rather than a large quantity at once would be better, as too much dairy or liquid can sometimes upset stomach balance. Consider avoiding lassi with meals featuring heavy, oily foods, as too much heaviness can hinder digestion. Similarly, steer clear of having it with acidic or tomato-based dishes, which may compound acidity. Watch your total dairy intake too, listening to your body to determine what works for you personally. Remember, each individual's constitution is unique, and what helps one person might not apply universally, so observe how your body reacts. If you find benefits, you might gradually incorporate lassi as a daily part of your routine, keeping an eye on how it affects your condition overall. Keep maintaining other good habits, like avoiding stress and having meals at regular, relaxed intervals, to support overall digestion. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult with a healthcare professional for personalized guidance based on your specific needs.
