how to control hyperthyroidism - #24066

Isabella

I am struggling with some really frustrating issues lately. A few months back, I started feeling super anxious and losing weight – like, 10 pounds in just a couple of weeks, no joke! I went to the doctor and turns out I have hyperthyroidism. Since then, I’ve been on medication, but I feel like it’s not enough. I’m still experiencing those shaky hands and heart palpitations. It’s really annoying because I’m trying to focus at work, you know? I keep hearing about natural methods and I wonder “how to control hyperthyroidism” with Ayurveda since I’ve been feeling quite drawn to holistic approaches. I read a bit about how certain herbs and dietary changes can help balance things out, but I'm kinda lost on the details and what specific things I should try. Anyone here had success with lifestyle changes or natural remedies? Any advice would be awesome, especially about what foods to eat or avoid. Just feeling desperate to get this under control, y'know?

Hyperthyroidism can indeed be a tough ride, but Ayurveda has some routes that might offer you relief alongside your current treatment. This holistic approach focuses on balancing the excess Pitta and Vata doshas, often found in this condition.

First, let’s talk about your diet as it’s super important. Try to consume cooling, nutritious foods. Grains like rice and wheat can be beneficial. Fresh fruits such as apples, pears, and bananas can help moderate your doshas. Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and cabbage are good, but in moderation to avoid excessive iodine intake. Avoid stimulants like caffeine, spicy foods, and processed sugar—they can aggravate your symptoms.

Herbs can also play a supportive role. Ashwagandha is revered for its adaptogenic properties and can aid in stabilizing your mood and anxiety. Take it under professional guidance, usually 1 tsp of powder with warm milk before bed. Brahmi can be excellent for calming the mind, enhance focus and reducing anxiety; it can be taken as a tea or supplement.

Daily routines or dinacharya are another cornerstone in Ayurveda. Suggest establishing regular sleep patterns—going to bed and waking up at the same time every day can help regulate your body clock. Incorporate gentle physical activities like yoga and meditation, aiming to practice in a non-competitive, relaxed manner. Surya namaskar is both calming and grounding, helping balance Vata.

For external therapies, Shirodhara—a forehead oil treatment—may help alleviate anxiety and improve sleep. Again, it’s best under the supervision of a qualified therapist.

Avoiding excessive screen time and take short breaks during work could also be useful. Calm your mind and ease palpitations with Pranayama exercises like ‘Nadi Shodhana.’ Do this simple alternate nostril breathing for about 10 minutes every day to center your mind and nervous system.

Remember, each person is unique and individual variations between conditions are significant in Ayurveda. Before embarking on this holistic path, it’s wise to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor these suggestions to your constitution and ensure they complement your ongoing treatment. Safety first; ensure these practices don’t interfere with any medication you’re taking.
