what is sendha namak in english - #24573

Dylan

I am having this nagging issue with digestion, and my friend suggested I try sendha namak. Honestly, I had no idea what is sendha namak in english, and was kinda lost. I went online and found out it's rock salt, but I can't find much info on how to use it for my stomach problems, which include bloating and some weird cravings. I tried using regular salt, but that didn't help much at all. Last week, I even felt so heavy after eating—like, my body wasn’t digesting food right? So I thought maybe give sendha namak a shot. I really don’t wanna be relying on antacids any longer. I read somewhere it also has minerals that could be good for health? Can anyone share their experience or knowledge about what is sendha namak in english, and how to actually use it in meals or for like, balancing out the tummy? Any tips would totally help me out!

Yes, sendha namak, known in English as rock salt, is often recommended in Ayurveda for digestive issues. Unlike regular table salt, sendha namak retains more natural trace minerals such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium, which aid in digestion and nutrient absorption. Your nagging digestion issues like bloating and those unusual cravings might indeed benefit from the inclusion of rock salt in your meals. One effective way to use sendha namak is to add it to your meals in moderate amounts, ensuring it complements your dishes without overpowering them. You can also try pairing it with hing (asafoetida) or ajwain (carom seeds) in a warm drink to aid in digestion, particularly after heavy meals. You simply need to dissolve a pinch of sendha namak and a small amount of hing in warm water, which you can drink post-meal, it's refreshing yet gently stimulating to the digestive system. Please pay attention to the fact that these are not magic solutions. Sometimes, it's about improving overall digestive health by incorporating certain lifestyle changes along with these remedies. Chewing your food slowly, avoiding large meals late at night, and incorporating gentle yoga or walks post meals can be beneficial. Also, examine your diet for any particular food items that might be the culprit of causing bloating or heaviness. Foods that are fried, excessively spicy, or too cold can aggravate your digestive problems. Keeping a food diary might help in understanding your body's response to different foods. In cases where you feel excessive heaviness or discomfort in your stomach, taking sendha namak with buttermilk can be soothing. Add a pinch of it along with a little roasted cumin powder to a glass of buttermilk, and have this after meals. Buttermilk is soothing and the rock salt in it helps in abating digestive disturbances. Please continue to monitor how your body reacts to these changes, and if issues persist, consulting an ayurvedic practitioner or a gastroenterologist would be advisable. There's always the potential for deeper imbalances or conditions that might need medical attention. If sendha namak doesn't provide relief, I'd recommend seeking further medical evaluation. Always listen to your body's signals.
