Concern About Long-Term Constipation and Possible Solutions,Seeking Causes and Treatment Options - #24846

Deepika

I’m reaching out to discuss a persistent issue I've been experiencing related to constipation. I regularly have very hard stools that are difficult and painful to pass. During bowel movements, the stool is so hard that it feels like it scrapes or stretches the anal opening, causing sharp pain. Afterward, I often feel soreness or a burning sensation around the anus, and this discomfort can continue even when I urinate. It feels like the area is irritated or possibly torn. I also struggle with irregular bowel movements and often feel like I haven’t fully emptied my bowels. This has been ongoing for a while, and it’s starting to affect my daily comfort and quality of life. I would appreciate your guidance on what could be causing this and how it can be treated or managed.

Namaste Deepika 🙏, Thank you for sharing your concern so clearly. What you're describing sounds like chronic constipation with possible anal fissure, which is common when hard stools repeatedly stretch or injure the anal lining. This condition can deeply affect comfort, confidence, and daily life , but dont worry we are here to help you out 😊 **Ayurvedic Perspective** This condition is likely due to: 1 Apana Vata imbalance (governs elimination) 2 Mandagini (low digestive fire) 3 Controlling natural urges or irregular eating/sleeping patterns If not addressed, it can lead to: 1 Anal fissure (Parikartika) 2 Painful defecation 3 Incomplete evacuation **Ayurvedic Management Plan** 1️⃣ Internal Medicines (under guidance): 1 Soornadi lehyam 1 tsp , morning empty stomach followed by warm water (This will heal the anal canal) 2 Chiruvilwadi ks tab 2-0-2 (after food twice daily )(this will helps to reduce this associated symptoms) 3 Abhayarishta – 30 ml at bedtime (This will relieve your constipation) SOS MEDCINE- Anuloma DS 1 tab (even if constipation persits ) > These help soften stool, strengthen digestion, and regulate Apana Vata 2️⃣ External Care for Anal Pain / Fissure: 1 Jatyadi ghrita application around anal opening after passing stool (soothes and heals minor tears) 2 Sitz bath (warm water + Nimba + Aragwadha powder)- take 3 gm of Nimba powder and Aragwadha powder in 3 litre of water , boil and reduce to half , pour in a basin and sit in the basin for 20 mins daily After this dry the area and apply jathyadi ghrita around anal region 3️⃣ Dietary Changes (Very Important) ✅ Include: • Warm water (sip throughout day) • Ghee in meals (acts as natural lubricant) • Soaked raisins, figs, prunes • Moong dal khichdi, cooked vegetables (bottle gourd, pumpkin, spinach) • Buttermilk with roasted cumin ❌ Avoid: • Dry, cold, fried foods • Constipation-causing items like maida, pizza, bakery products • Red meat, excess tea or coffee • Skipping meals or eating late at night ** Lifestyle Tips:** • Establish a regular toilet routine — sit at the same time daily • Avoid straining — it worsens fissures • Practice Anulom Vilom pranayama to regulate Vata • Gentle walk after meals helps bowel movement You’re not alone , constipation with fissure is a common and very distressing condition. With proper Ayurvedic medications and lifestyle changes as i mentioned most patients find relief without needing surgery. Wishing you comfort and relief from constipation and pain Warm regards, Dr. Snehal Vidhate

Your symptoms suggest an imbalance in Vata dosha, which affects colon health and could cause dryness and hard stools. To address this Ayurvedically, it's essential to improve hydration, optimize your diet, and consider some lifestyle modifications. Start with dietary adjustments. Incorporate warm, cooked, and slightly oily foods into your meals, as these are calming for Vata. Cook with sesame oil or ghee, which lubricates the intestine, assisting smoother bowel movements. Include fiber-rich foods like oatmeal, lentils, and vegetables, but ensure they're well-cooked to prevent aggravating Vata further. It would also be helpful to avoid dry, cold and processed foods which contribute to the issue. Consider reducing your intake of caffeine and alcohol, as these can be dehydrating. Regular hydration is crucial; aim for around 8 glasses of water daily, preferably warm. Herbal teas, especially those with ginger or fennel, can also aid digestion and relieve constipation. In terms of Ayurvedic remedies, taking a teaspoon of triphala powder with warm water before bedtime could help promote regular bowel movements and soften stools. Your lifestyle can also play a role; integrate gentle exercise such as walking or yoga into your routine, as this stimulates digestive health. Establish a consistent routine for meals and sleep to regulate your body's rhythms. Meditation or deep-breathing exercises may also help calm Vata, reducing stress which often affects digestion. If the pain continues or you observe bleeding, it's important to seek immediate medical attention as conditions like fissures or hemorrhoids may require professional care. Severe or prolonged pain should be evaluated by a healthcare provider to ensure no serious underlying problems exist.
