what are the benefits of eating curd - #25100

Claire

I am kinda stressed about my digestion and want to ask about what are the benefits of eating curd. Like, I’ve noticed my stomach feels off a lot lately, bloating, and sometimes it even cramps. My mom keeps telling me curd is amazing for gut health, and she swears by it. I used to love it but kinda stopped eating it for a while. Just last week, I thought I’d give it another shot and bought this big tub of curd! I've been trying to add it to my meals, but honestly, I’m not really feeling the difference yet. My friend says that if you eat curd regularly, it can really help with digestion, but what are the benefits of eating curd beyond that? Like, does it really have any probiotics or something? Maybe I should eat it more? I’m just looking for any real advice or experiences about what are the benefits of eating curd, you know? Would love to hear what you all think!

Curd is an excellent choice for improving digestion and more! Its benefits extend well beyond just making your stomach feel good. It’s rich in probiotics, which are live bacteria that are beneficial for gut health. These friendly bacteria helps in balancing the gut microbiota, which can be crucial in managing bloating, cramps and other digestive issues you’re experiencing. Your mom really was onto something there, recommending it.

In Ayurveda, curd or dahi is considered satvik, which helps to maintain balance in your digestive system, enhancing the power of ‘agni’ or digestive fire. If your digestive fire is low, you’re more likely to experience discomforts like bloating and cramps. Eating curd can thus stimulate digestion naturally.

In terms of how to incorporate it into your diet, consuming it during lunchtime is also advisable since your body digestion is strongest midday. Try adding a little cumin powder and black salt for extra digestive benefits. But do avoid curd at night—it might not digest well and could disturb your sleep.

Interestingly, curd is also a great source of calcium, which is important for bone health. Regular consumption can thus support your overall vitality. Some studies suggest that the proteins and vitamins present in curd like Vitamin B12, can help reduce stress levels.

If you’re keen to really see the benefits, continue adding it to your meals consistently. It’s important to stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet alongside though—no need to rush the process. The key is patience in observing how your body responds over time. However, if your symptoms persists or worsen, consider consulting a healthcare professional just to rule out any more troublesome issues.
