is curd good for stomach infection - #25192

Andrew

I am dealing with this stomach infection that's really been messing with me. For the past week, I've had this constant pain and bloating. Doctor did some tests, and it's confirmed, just a nasty infection. I read somewhere that eating curd can help with digestion and maybe even fight infections. Now I’m wondering, is curd good for stomach infection? Cause yesterday I had a little, and I felt a bit better, but then later it kinda just felt heavy in my stomach again. Like, maybe I shouldn’t have mixed it with spicy food? I’m just confused because people say curd is good, but I’m not sure if it’s helpful when dealing with an actual infection. Should I be avoiding curd altogether right now? Or can it actually assist in healing? I just feel kinda lost in all this health stuff!

Curd, known for its probiotic qualities, can indeed be beneficial for promoting healthy digestion as it introduces good bacteria into your gut. However, with a stomach infection, it’s important to approach it with caution. The heaviness you felt after eating curd could be attributed to a combination of factors, particularly if you ate it alongside spicy foods, which can intensify discomfort when your gut is already sensitive. In Ayurveda, curd is seen as akin to sour which can sometimes aggravate pitta dosha, especially during an infection when your body's system is inflamed. Since you’re dealing with bloating and pain, it’s crucial to be mindful of how your agni, or digestive fire, is functioning. The disturbance in digestion due to infection might hinder the process required to digest curd comfortably. Consider these suggestions for consuming curd: If you choose to take it, consume it plain without mixing it into spicy or heavier meals. Eating curd on its own or mixing it with a pinch of sugar can sometimes lead to better tolerance. Another approach involves making buttermilk, which is lighter on the stomach. Blend curd with water, a pinch of rock salt, and cumin powder to aid digestion. If symptoms persist, like the pain and heaviness, it’s prudent to refrain from curd temporarily and try other easy-to-digest foods. Stick to well-cooked meals that are mild and not too oily or spicy — such as rice, khichdi (a rice and lentil dish), oatmeal, or simple vegetable broths. These will help in soothing your gut and promoting faster recovery. Listen closely to your body’s responses. If discomfort persists or worsens, it’s best to touch base with your physician for a reevaluation of your condition. Remember, Ayurveda emphasizes balance and observing how different foods impact your individual constitution.
