Managing thyroid levels can be complex, especially when TSH levels fluctuate significantly like in ur case. TSH, or Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone, is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that regulates thyroid activity. When TSH is high, it generally indicates that the thyroid isn't producing enough hormones, leading to hypothyroidism. Several factors can contribute to fluctuating TSH levels, including medication inconsistency, dietary influences, stress, and underlying health issues. Firstly, while continuing your prescribed medication (Thyroup 50) under your healthcare provider's supervision, you can also integrate some Ayurvedic practices to help balance your thyroid. Ayurveda focuses on the root cause, balancing doshas, and enhancing agni, the digestive fire. 1. **Dietary Recommendations:** - Include guggulu in your diet; it's known for its effectiveness in balancing thyroid function. Trikatu churna (a combination of ginger, black pepper, and long pepper) aids, digestion and enhances metabolism, and helps with thyroid health. - Ensure a diet rich in whole grains, legumes, and green leafy vegetables, which can help maintain nutritional balance. Avoid cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cabbage as they may interfere with thyroid function. - Sip on warm water or herbal teas to support your digestive fire and avoid cold drinks for better metabolic function. 2. **Lifestyle Adjustments:** - Implement a routine practice of yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) like Uijayi, which is great for maintaining thyroid health. - Adequate sleep and stress management are key; practice mindfulness or meditation regularly to reduce stress levels, as stress can exacerbate thyroid issues. 3. **Herbal Support:** - Consider incorporating ashwagandha as it is known to support thyroid function and reduce stress. Always consult an Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare professional before introducing new herbs to your routine. 4. **Professional Monitoring:** - Regularly monitor your TSH levels and consult your healthcare provider for adjustments in medication if necessary. Consistency with medication and follow-ups is crucial. These recommendations aim to support your current treatment and optimize your thyroid function through Ayurvedic practices. Always balance Ayurvedic treatments with professional medical advice to ensure comprehensive care.

HELLO ADARSH, WHATS HAPPENING IN YOUR BODY? with Hypothyroidism, your thyroid isn't producing enough T3 and T4 hormones, your brain increases TSH(thyroid-stimulating hormone) to try and push the thyroid to work harder. -High TSH= very low thyroid hormone levels. -Low T3= your body isn't getting the energy- regulating hormones it needs. WHY YOU MUST NOT SKIP THYROUP Thyrup ) is life long replacement therapy , not just a temporary fix. -missing even a few doses consistently can cause TSH to rise significantly -high TSH leads to fatigue, weight gain , brain fog, weakness, low hb, and other symptoms you're experiencing. TIP= set daily reminder. Take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, 30-60 minutes before breakfast for best absorption. SUPPORTIVE THYROID MEDICATIONS(safe to take all with thyroup) 1) KANCHANAR GUGGULU + YOGARAJ GUGGULU =2+ 1 tab twice daily after meals with warm water(Kanchana 2, yograj 1) = balances kapha and support glandular detoxification and metabolism 2) Ashwagandhadhi lehyam= 1 tsp twice daily with warm water in morning and night =adaptogenic, improves thyroid axis, reduces fatigue, supports mental clarity. 3) DHATRI LAUHA- 1 tab, NAVAYAS LAUHA- 1 tab = twice daily before meals both with honey = classical iron based formulation that boost HB, improves digestion and reduce tiredness 4) TRIPHALA CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm water at bed time and TRIKATU CHURNA= 2gm with lukewarm water before meals twice daily = promotes gut health, liver detox, and clears metabolic waste, which often builds up in hypothyroidism 5) BRAHMI VATI= 1 tab at night with milk = calms nervous system, reduces anxiety and brain fog- both are common in hypothyroidism DIET AND LIFESTYLE NUTRITION IODINE= add iodised salt if not already using. SELENIUM-RICH FOODS= Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, eggs IRON AND B12= add spinach, jaggery, and lentils AVOID= Raw cruciferous veggies= cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower= they will increase thyroid - soy and soy products= disrupts thyroid hormone absorption -refined sugar and processed foods= suppresses metabolism -wheat in excess= heavy to digest - cold food and drinks= suppress thyroid - fermented food(curd, pickles)= increase kapha and toxins - heavy legumes like rajma, chana, chole at night= hard to digest HAVE -warm water sip throughout the day - herbal teas= ginger tea, tulsi tea, cumin-coriander-fennel tea - avoid caffeine excess= especially coffee MAKE Black sesame seeds+ jaggery balls= 1 small ball daily LIFESTYLE -sleep by 10 pm YOGA DAILY FOR 30-45 MINUTES -sukhasana + deep belly breathing -nadi sodhana= 7 rounds - ujjayi pranayam= 5 rounds -sarvangasana -matsyasana -halasana -bhujangasana -setu bandhasana -suryanamskar = 5 rounds daily -utakatasana vrikshasana avoid fast or exhausting asana= slow mindful practice is more effective for thyroid disorders -keep breathing smooth and nasal throughout -always ends with 5 minutes of savasana(corpse pose ) for full reset. -TSH test every 6-8 weeks DO FOLLOW HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL THANK YOU DR. Non Functioning Kidney - #3399

Anna

My father was recently diagnosed with a non-functioning kidney, and the doctor said it might need to be removed. We’re looking into Ayurveda as a complementary approach to support his remaining kidney and overall health. Are there specific Ayurvedic treatments or herbs for a non-functioning kidney that can help reduce the strain on the other kidney? He currently has no major symptoms like pain or swelling, but his blood pressure and creatinine levels are a bit high. Does Ayurveda suggest any detoxification therapies or kashayams for managing kidney function? I’ve read about gokshura and punarnava—are these helpful in cases of a non-functioning kidney? If anyone has experience managing kidney issues with Ayurveda, how effective was it for long-term health? Did it help improve creatinine levels or prevent further complications?

In Ayurveda, kidney health is closely linked to Vata and Kapha dosha balance, and treatments often focus on strengthening the kidneys, improving circulation, and reducing the strain on the remaining kidney. Herbs like Gokshura and Punarnava are widely recommended for kidney issues, as they have diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties that help support kidney function, reduce swelling, and balance fluid retention. Punarnava specifically is known for its ability to support the kidneys and improve overall renal health by reducing the burden on the kidneys and helping with waste elimination. Gokshura is also considered beneficial for urinary health and can support the proper functioning of the remaining kidney. For managing elevated creatinine and blood pressure, Ayurvedic detoxification therapies like Basti (medicated enemas) or specific kashayams (herbal decoctions) could help by cleansing toxins and balancing Pitta and Kapha doshas. However, these treatments should be done under the supervision of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure they complement his medical treatment. Many people find Ayurvedic support helpful in managing kidney health over time, but it is essential to monitor the condition regularly with the guidance of a healthcare provider.

Ah, you're exploring Ayurveda as a supportive path—that's a thoughtful consideration alongside conventional medicine. For your father, who’s dealing with a non-functioning kidney, Ayurveda can offer some options to support his overall health and that of his remaining kidney. First off, though, I just gotta say: priority one is to have regular follow-ups with the allopathic doctor, especially with the idea of surgery on the table. Safety first. Now, diving into the world of Ayurveda, gokshura and punarnava are indeed the herbs that often come up for kidney health. Both can be quite useful. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is traditionally believed to support kidney function and is typically used to soothe urinary tract and reduce water retention. Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) is known for its diuretic properties, can reduce swelling (not an issue here but still). These herbs aim to support renal function and help in maintaining fluid balance, which can be helpful for the working kidney. For supporting the digestive health and reducing the workload on kidneys, Ayurveda suggests strengthening agni, the digestive fire. Have you considered light meals that are easy to digest and konsiderate on kidneys, like kitchari? And drink plenty of warm water. This can help in naturally detoxifying without overstressing the kidneys. Avoid processed foods, too much salt, or high-protein diet—it’s fascinating how those small dietary tweaks can make a difference! As for detoxification, some folks think of panchakarma, but it's intense and should only be done under expert supervision, if at all suitable for his condition. Rasayana therapies: rejuvenation treatments are often useful for long-term health maintenance. High blood pressure, as you mentioned, can strain the kidneys further! Yoga and pranayama like nadi shodhana might be beneficial to help manage stress and lower blood pressure. But the thing is, with Ayurveda, it's all about personalized treatment, which requires a deep understanding of his prakriti and vikrati (imbalances). It would be prudent to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner directly—isn't it amazing how everyone has their own unique constitution? Ultimately, Ayurveda can surely be a complementary approach, but it shouldn't delay any critical medical interventions. I hope this gives you a starting point—may this journey bring health and solace to your father.
