can we take triphala daily - #25390
I am really curious if can we take triphala daily. Lately, I've been struggling with some digestive issues, like bloating and occasional constipation, and a friend recommended triphala as a natural way to help. Tried it for the first time last week, and honestly, I was surprised by how quickly it seemed to help! But, I’m a bit worried about long-term use. Can we take triphala daily? I saw some stuff online that suggested it’s safe, but I want to make sure I don’t mess up my system. I just can’t shake this feeling of doubt. Like, I’ve never been a huge supplement person but with everything that’s going on with my gut health, it seems worth it to stick with something more natural. Would love to hear from anyone who’s been using triphala regularly! Do you really feel good effects, and, is it okay to take it everyday?? Not sure if I should be concerned or just go with it... 🤔 Thanks!

Doctors’ responses
Triphala, a combination of three fruits – Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica), and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – indeed has a long history in Ayurveda for supporting digestion and bowel regularity. It’s truly balancing for all three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), and generally considered safe for regular use. Especially with symptoms like bloating and occasional constipation, triphala can be beneficial as it gently detoxifies and enhances digestion without causing dependency.
For daily use, taking it in the right manner is key. Traditionally, it’s taken in powder form, about 1 teaspoon mixed in a glass of warm water, preferably at night before bed. However, if powders are inconvenient, triphala is also available in tablet form. Dosing might vary depending on individual constitutions, so starting with a small dose and observing your body’s response is wise. Drinking enough warm water throughout the day and avoiding overly processed, heavy, or rich foods may also help support digestive function.
While triphala itself is balanced and classified as mild, everyone’s body is unique. Long-term use, though typically safe, should be informed by your body’s feedback. If there’s improvement in digestion but you notice any side effects such as diarrhea or unwanted weight loss, it might indicate your doshas need recalibration.
Consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner can offer tailored insights, addressing your unique Prakriti and current health. Also, if digestive concerns persist or are severe, it’s important to rule out underlying conditions with the help of a healthcare professional. Regular use of triphala could be a gentle addition to your routine, but ensure it complements your lifestyle and overall health.
