is curd good for stomach - #25528

Owen

I am struggling with some stomach issues lately and really need some insight. Like, I've been dealing with bloating and discomfort after meals for weeks now. I used to eat a lot of curd, thinking it would help, but now I'm wondering if is curd good for stomach issues? I've also read mixed things about probiotics, and while I think dairy can be good for digestion, I'm just not sure anymore. Sometimes I feel like curd makes my bloating worse, but then I hear other people swear by it for gut health?? It's all very confusing! My mom always said is curd good for stomach ailments, but is that true for everyone? What about lactose intolerance? I mean, can folks like me who feel bloated after eating dairy still benefit from curd, or is it a no-go? Really want to get back to feeling normal again. Any advice or personal stories about this would help tremendously!

Curd can be both beneficial and problematic for different people, depending on individual constitution and specific digestive imbalances. In Ayurveda, curd is considered to have a sour taste and heating properties, which can increase the Pitta dosha if taken excessively. It's typically regarded as helpful for strengthening digestion and aiding appetite when consumed properly. However, it can worsen conditions related to excess Kapha, like your bloating, especially if consumed in heavier quantities or with hot food. If you're dealing with bloating and discomfort after meals, it may be worth considering the following: Curd should ideally be consumed in the day, preferably in lunch rather than dinner, as it tends to be heavy. Also, people with lactose intolerance might find that the fermentation process of curd can reduce lactose content, but it's not always the case for everyone. Adding a bit of black pepper or ginger can help balance the heaviness of the curd and enhance its digestion. Ensure also that the curd is fresh and homemade, as commercially available versions could have added ingredients that might complicate your digestive issues. You might also want to consider whether the bloating is aggravated by the way you're combining curd with your meals. Avoid mixing it with foods like fish, or hot drinks. For a more personalized approach, take note of your reactions after eating curd and other dairy products, and consider consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can assess your dosha and guide you on dietary choices tailored to your constitution. Small lifestyle changes like eating slowly, chewing thoroughly, and avoiding heavy or oily foods can also support your digestion. If bloating persists despite making these adjustments, professional medical advice may be needed, especially to rule out any underlying intolerance or digestive disorder.
