how to reduce pitham in the body - #25603

Emily

I am really worried about my health lately. For the past few months, I've been feeling super agitated, my skin is breaking out like crazy, and I’ve had these fiery hot flashes that just wont go away. A friend mentioned it could be because of excess pitham in my body, and honestly, it makes sense because I’ve also been having acid reflux and mood swings. I tried switching my diet to include more cooling foods and herbs but I have no clue if they’re helping or not. I looked up how to reduce pitham in the body, but there’s just too much info out there! Some say drink coconut water, others suggest certain spices (like coriander??) and I’m not really ready to make drastic changes without knowing more. How to reduce pitham in the body effectively — I mean like, what really works? Has anyone here found reliable remedies or tips, preferably that doesn't take up all my time? It’s just difficult balancing everything right now, and I want to feel good again. Any advice would be super appreciated!

Excess pitham, or pitta imbalance, could absolutely be behind those symptoms. Such imbalances often manifest through skin issues like breakouts, hot flashes, and mood swings, matching what you're experiencing. To manage pitta, the key is adopting a cooling lifestyle, both diet and daily habits, that can help you naturally restore balance. First, let's talk diet. You're on the right path with cooling foods. Prioritize foods that are naturally sweet, bitter, and astringent. These will help calm the excess pitta. Things to mingle in meals might include cucumbers, melons, grapes, and leafy greens. Coconut water, as you've mentioned, is indeed excellent, as it's refreshing and cooling. Avoid spicy, sour, deep-fried, and overly salty items which can aggravate pitta. Limit caffeine, alcohol, and smoking as these can further stoke the "fire" within. Herbs and spices can be really beneficial too. Consider introducing coriander seeds and fennel into your daily routine. They are known to soothe digestive issues like acid reflux, providing a cooling effect to the body. A simple tea brewed from these can be sipped after meals. Regarding lifestyle, maintain a balanced, calming daily schedule. Practicing gentle yoga or meditation can help restore inner balance and reduce stress. Ensure sufficient rest, keeping a regular sleep-wake cycle is vital for pitta types. If you're outdoors, avoid going out in the direct midday sun, as heat can amplify pitta symptoms. Hydration is important, but be mindful to drink room temperature or cool water, not ice-cold. Pitta can react intensely to extremes, whether it's temperature or stress, so aim for moderation in activities and thoughts. It's crucial to listen to your body, what feels like it's working. Drastic changes are not always necessary or beneficial; often small consistent adjustments resonate best. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized strategies and to rule out any underlying health conditions. Reducing pitham may take time, but gentle, steady changes leads to lasting effects.
