My father is 61 years old, diabetic for the past 20 years and hypertensive for 10 years. He also has mild CKD, with creatinine 1.4 and eGFR 60. Recently, his echocardiogram showed a calcified AV, EF is 60%, and Doppler AV peak velocity is 1.0 m/sec. He is currently taking Clopitorva tablets. One doctor here prescribed Arjuna Vati, but I forgot to mention his CKD during last time. So, can he safely take Arjuna Vati with CKD?

He regularly visits SDM Ayurveda Hospital once a year, along with consultations at a modern hospital. Along with all his modern medications, he is also taking Kataka Kadiradi Kashaya twice daily before food, Glukostat by Atrimed twice daily after food, and Shiva Gutika twice daily after food. Considering his condition, is there any Ayurvedic medicine that he should discontinue?
Since your father has diabetes, hypertension, and mild CKD together, it is good that he is under regular supervision from both Ayurveda and modern medicine. The medicines you mentioned are commonly used, but in CKD the main concern is avoiding unnecessary load on kidneys and avoiding too many formulations together long term. From the list: * Kataka Khadiradi Kashaya is generally acceptable if digestion and kidney function remain stable * Glukostat is mainly for sugar support and can usually be continued with sugar monitoring * Shiva Gutika should be reviewed more carefully, especially for long-term continuous use, because some classical formulations may not be ideal in CKD patients depending on composition and duration I would advise: * Avoid adding multiple new Ayurvedic medicines unnecessarily * Keep regular monitoring of creatinine, eGFR, potassium, BP, and sugar * Inform the SDM physician about all medicines being taken together, including Arjuna Vati For now, do not stop anything suddenly on your own, but Shiva Gutika is the one I would suggest discussing specifically with his treating Ayurvedic doctor considering CKD and long-term use.
