I recently booked my first Ayurvedic massage, and now I’m stressing over what to wear. I’ve had regular spa massages before, where they just give you a towel or disposable underwear, but I feel like Ayurvedic massage might be different? I read that it involves a lot of oil and specific movements, so now I’m wondering—do I need to wear something special for it? Some people say you should be completely undressed, others say wear a loose cotton garment, and some mention they provide a cloth or dhoti. I really don’t want to feel awkward or uncomfortable during my first Ayurvedic massage, but at the same time, I want to make sure I’m following the right traditions. Another thing—since there’s so much oil used in Ayurvedic massage, does it completely soak into the skin, or will I end up covered in it afterward? Do I need to bring a change of clothes, or will the place provide something? Also, how long should I wait before showering after an Ayurvedic massage?
