Hello Almas,

Thank you for sharing your condition. You are experiencing persistent breathlessness despite inhaler use, along with palpitations, visible veins, muscle pulsations, and severe anxiety. This suggests a dual issue:

1.Pranavaha Srotas Dushti (Asthma/Respiratory imbalance, Vata-Kapha involvement) 2.Manovaha Srotas Dushti (Anxiety, stress, sympathetic overdrive)

Likely Nidana:

1.Vata aggravation (causing palpitations, trembling, anxious breath) 2.Kapha obstruction in Pranavaha Srotas (causing breathlessness) 3.Raja–Tama aggravation in mind (causing health anxiety).

🔍 Recommended Investigations

1. Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) – to assess asthma control. 2. Chest X-ray – to rule out chronic lung changes. 3. ECG – for palpitations/fast heartbeat. 4. CBC, Hb% – rule out anemia (can worsen breathlessness). 5. Serum Vitamin D & B12 – deficiency may cause weakness/anxiety. 6. TSH – rule out thyroid imbalance (palpitations & anxiety link).

💊 Internal Medicine

Phase 1 – Shwasahara & Vata–Kapha balance (2 weeks)

1. Sitopaladi churna – 1 g with honey, twice daily. 2. Vasavaleha – 1 tsp with warm water, twice daily. 3. Haridra khanda – 5 g with warm milk at bedtime (for allergic/asthmatic base).

Phase 2 – Manas-balya & Anulomana (next 4 weeks)

1. Saraswatarishta – 15 ml + equal water, twice daily after meals (anxiety, palpitation). 2. Ashwagandha churna – 3 g with warm milk at night (calming & strength). 3. Brahmi vati (goldless) – 1 tab, twice daily (for stress & heart calming).

🌿 External Support

1.Steam inhalation with Ajwain / Pudina leaves once daily during breathlessness. 2.Abhyanga (oil massage) with sesame oil 2–3 times/week for Vata balance.

🥗 Diet & Lifestyle

Pathya (Recommended):

1. Warm, light, freshly cooked meals. 2. Tulsi, ginger, black pepper herbal tea daily. 3. Fruits like pomegranate, apple, pears. 4. Cow’s ghee (½ tsp daily). 5. Soaked almonds & raisins (5 each).

Apathya (Avoid):

1. Cold drinks, ice creams, bakery foods. 2. Excess curd, fried, oily & packaged foods. 3. Late-night sleep & excess screen exposure. 4. Overthinking about breathlessness (increases anxiety loop).

🧘‍♀️ Yoga & Lifestyle

1. Pranayama: Anulom Vilom (10 min, twice daily).

Bhramari (humming bee pranayama – 5 min, for anxiety).

Slow deep belly breathing – whenever anxious.

2. Asanas: - Sukhasana with mindful breathing. - Bhujangasana (improves lung capacity). - Setu Bandhasana (reduces palpitations).

3. Lifestyle:

- Maintain regular sleep (10–6 ideally). - Journaling or guided meditation for health anxiety. - Avoid over-checking pulse/heartbeat repeatedly.

🌸 With Kind Regards

May your breath become steady, your mind calmer, and your heart regain confidence. With consistent care for both lungs and mind, relief will come.

Sure, Almas. Ayurvedic treatment for asthma and anxiety focuses on balancing Vata and Kapha doshas, strengthening the lungs, calming the mind, and supporting digestion. Below is a holistic plan using Ayurvedic principles—but please remember, always check with a qualified Ayurvedic doctor before starting new remedies, especially if you’re taking other medicines.

For Asthma:

Sitopaladi Churna – 1 teaspoon with honey, twice daily after meals

Vasaka Syrup (Adhatoda) – 10 ml, twice daily after meals

Pippali Powder (Long Pepper) – 1/4 teaspoon with warm water, once daily

Talisadi Churna (optional for cough) – 1/2 tsp with honey, twice daily

For Anxiety:

Ashwagandha Capsules – 1 capsule (500 mg), twice daily after food

Brahmi Syrup or Tablets – 10 ml syrup or 1 tablet, at bedtime

Shankhpushpi Syrup – 10 ml, at bedtime

2. Oil Therapies (with guidance):

Abhyanga (Oil massage): Use warm sesame oil to calm Vata and improve circulation.

Shirodhara: Calms anxiety and promotes deep relaxation (done in Ayurvedic clinics).

Steam inhalation: Add ajwain seeds or eucalyptus oil for clearing chest congestion.

Anu Taila (nasya) – 2 drops in each nostril morning

3. Dietary Guidance (Pathya-Apathya)

Include: Warm, cooked food (easy to digest) Moong dal khichdi Steamed vegetables with ghee Spices like turmeric, cumin, ajwain (carom seeds), ginger Herbal teas (tulsi, mulethi, cinnamon)

Avoid: Cold food/drinks Ice cream, curd at night Fried food, processed snacks Excess dairy (can increase mucus) Heavy meals at night.

Thank you!

asthma is known as Tamaka Shwasa, which is considered a Vata-Kaphaj disorder. It is caused by the vitiation of Prana Vayu (a sub-type of Vata responsible for the respiratory system) and Kapha dosha. The symptoms you describe, such as anxiety, rapid heartbeat, and muscle palpitations, can be associated with Vata imbalance. The Vata dosha governs the nervous system and can cause anxiety and restlessness when aggravated.

HELLO ALMAS PARWEEN,

You have Asthma, which in modern medicine is a chronic condition where the airways of the lungs become inflamed, narrowed, and produce excess mucus. This leads to symptoms like breathlessness, chest tightness, wheezing and cough

You also have Anxiety (health anxiety in particular), which makes you feel your body symptoms more strongly. For example, when you feel slight breathlessness, your mind reacts with fear (“I can’t breathe, something is wrong”), which further increase heart rate and tightness, making symptoms worse.

In Ayurveda, asthma is called Tamaka Shwaas, a type of Shwaas roga. -It happens when Kapha dosha (mucus, heaviness ) mixes with vata dosha (irregular air movement) and blocks the airways -Your anxiety is mainly related to vata imbalance (overactive mind, restlessness)

So treatment has two goals -open and strengthen your breathing channels= reduce kapha, stabilize vata -calm the mind and nervous system = balance vata, reduce anxiety

TREATMENT GOAL 1) Immediate relief= reduce breathlessness and chest tightness 2) Long term control= prevent frequent attacks, strengthen immunity and lungs 3) Mind-Body balance= reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and calm the heart rate 4) Lifestyle correction= remove triggers (food, habits, exposure)

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) SHITOPALADI CHURNA + HONEY= 2 gm twice daily after meals =relieves cough , clears mucus

2) TALISADI CHURNA= 1 gm with warm water twice daily after meals =improves digestion, reduces kapha

3) YASHTIMADHU= 1/2 tsp in warm water once daily in morning =soothes throat, reduces inflammation

4) TRIKATU CHURNA= 1/2 tsp with honey after meals =improves metabolism, clears phlegm

5) ASHWAGANDHA CAPSULES= 1 cap at night with warm. milk =calms anxiety, strengthens body

6) BRAHMI VATI= 1 tab at night =for anxiety and mental calmness

Duration= 6-12 weeks

EXTERNAL THERAPIES -Steam inhalation with ajwain or eucalyptus oil- clears blocked passages -Oil massage with warm sesame oil= calms vata, reduces anxiety -Nasya therapy= Instill 2 drops of Anu taila in each nostril in morning =lubricates nasal passage, prevents attacks

Can also go for panchakarma for better relief -Vamana= to expel excess kapha, done in chronic stubborn asthma -Virechana= for balancing pitta and kapha

DIET AND LIFESTYLE

Favourable foods -warm, light, easily digestible meals -soups with black pepper , ginger, cumin -green gram , old rice, barley, wheat -herbals teas= ginger tea, tulsi tea -warm water throughout the day

FOODS TO AVOID -Cold, refrigerated, iced foods/drinks -curd, cheese, heavy milk products at night -fried, oily, junk food -excess banana, guava, or sour foods -exposure to dust, smoke, strong perfumes, and sudden weather changes

YOGA AND PRANAYAM -Sukhasana + deep breathing= basic relaxation -Anulom vilom= balances vata and calms anxiety -Bhramari= very effective for anxiety + asthma -Bhujangasana, setu band hasana, matsyasana= expand chest and lungs

Avoid very forceful breathing practices like Kapalbhati or intense during an attack

SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES -warm water with a pinch of turmeric before bed -chew a piece of dry ginger with honey during cough -inhalae steam with ajwain or tulsi leaves -apply warm mustard oil with a pinch of salt on chest and back during wheezing (external only)

-Asthma cannot be “cured” fully, but it can be controlled very well with right approach -Never stop your inhaler suddenly, Ayurveda supports but does not replace emergency medicines -Your anxiety is amplifying your breathlessness- so both need to be treated together -A combination of inhaler + ayurvedic internal medications + external therapies + lifestyle changes + yoga/meditation gives best result

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA

Addressing asthma symptoms goes beyond simply managing breathlessness. In Ayurveda, balancing doshas is essential, particularly the vata dosha, which often influences anxiety and irregular breathing. Considering your situation, some immediate actions can be taken.

Start with your diet and lifestyle, which play a significant role. Focus on a vata-pacifying diet which includes warm, cooked meals, such as soups and stews, that are easy on the digestive system. Avoid cold foods and drinks that can aggravate vata. Incorporate spices like ginger, cumin, and turmeric, which support digestion and promote lung health. Drink warm water throughout the day.

Pranayama (breathing exercises) like Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) and Anulom Vilom can calm your nervous system and reduce anxiety. Aim for 10 minutes each morning in a quiet space; slowly increase as you get more comfortable. Be cautious and stop if you feel any discomfort.

Herbs like Ashwagandha can be beneficial for anxiety and stress. Take it in powder form, mixed with warm milk in the evening. Start with a small amount, 1/4 teaspoon, and adjust as needed. Consult a local practitioner to determine the best dosage for your specific prakriti.

Ensure adequate sleep and rest, since vata imbalance can be exacerbated by irregular sleep patterns. Aim for a consistent sleep schedule, prioritizing resting fully each night. Try a warm bath before bed, possibly infused with calming herbs like chamomile, to relax your body and mind.

If intense anxiety or breathlessness persists, please seek medical advice. Quick medical attention may be necessary, particularly if symptoms worsen or do not respond well to these suggestions. Asthma can require immediate intervention and should not be disregarded. Be proactive in managing your condition and consult your healthcare provider regularly.

Asthma and anxiety often interact, making symptoms more pronounced. In Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, your symptoms could be linked to a Vata imbalance, which can manifest as heightened anxiety and breathlessness. To address this, we can look at a few strategies to help bring balance and relief.

First, consider dietary modifications. Incorporate warm, mildly oily foods that are easy to digest, like cooked vegetables, rice, and warm soups. Avoid cold foods and drinks as these can aggravate Vata. In particular, caffeine and processed foods often exacerbate anxiety, so it’s best to reduce or eliminate them.

Yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) can be beneficial. Practices like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) and Ujjayi breath can help calm the mind and regulate breathing. Try to practice these exercises early in the morning or evening for about 15 minutes, in a quiet environment.

Herbal formulations, such as mixture of Ashwagandha and Brahmi, may help to support mental calmness and physical relaxation. You can take these herbs in powdered form with warm milk or water at bedtime, but confirm with a local practitioner for correct doses.

An oil massage, or Abhyanga, using warm sesame oil, can help pacify Vata when performed regularly. Focus on long strokes on the limbs and circular motions on joints. This may ease muscular tension and visibility of veins.

Lastly, ensure you maintain regular routines, as erratic schedules tend to disturb Vata. If symptoms persist or worsen, continue with your prescribed inhalers and consult a healthcare provider, preferably with experience in integrative approaches. This can ensure all aspects of your condition are addressed comprehensively.
