PLANTAR FASCIITIS WITH HEEL AND SOLE PAIN THAT WORSENS AFTER WALKING OR EXERCISE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS DURING PERIMENOPAUSE IS SEEN IN AYURVEDA AS VATA PREDOMINANT CONDITION WITH CONTRIBUTION OF ASTHI AND MAJJA DHATU KSHAYA HORMONAL FLUCTUATIONS IN PERIMENOPAUSE DRY THE TISSUES REDUCE LUBRICATION AND INCREASE VATA WHICH MAKES THE PLANTAR FASCIA STIFF AND PAINFUL ESPECIALLY AFTER REST OR EXCESS USE SO THE PAIN IS NOT ONLY LOCAL BUT CONNECTED TO SYSTEMIC VATA AND HORMONAL CHANGES

THE MOST IMPORTANT HERB INTERNALLY IS GUGGULU AND ASHWAGANDHA FOR VATA SHAMANA AND TISSUE SUPPORT YOU CAN TAKE YOGRAJ GUGGULU TWO TABLETS TWICE DAILY AFTER FOOD WITH WARM WATER ASHWAGANDHA CHURNA HALF TEASPOON TWICE DAILY WITH WARM MILK FOR MUSCLE AND LIGAMENT STRENGTH AND HORMONAL SUPPORT DASHMOOL KWATH FORTY ML TWICE DAILY AFTER FOOD TO REDUCE INFLAMMATION AND PAIN EXTERNALLY DAILY ABHYANGA IS ESSENTIAL APPLY WARM KSHIRABALA TAILA OR MAHANARAYAN TAILA TO BOTH SOLES AND HEELS FOR TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES FOLLOWED BY WARM WATER SOAK THIS GREATLY REDUCES MORNING PAIN AND STIFFNESS AVOID BAREFOOT WALKING HARD SURFACES AND OVEREXERTION

INVESTIGATIONS THAT ARE USEFUL IN RECURRENT OR BILATERAL HEEL PAIN INCLUDE VITAMIN D LEVEL SERUM CALCIUM THYROID PROFILE AND IF PAIN IS SEVERE OR NOT IMPROVING X RAY OR ULTRASOUND OF HEEL TO RULE OUT CALCANEAL SPUR AYURVEDA GIVES GOOD RELIEF IN PLANTAR FASCIITIS BUT CONSISTENCY IS IMPORTANT AND IMPROVEMENT IS GRADUAL OVER SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS ESPECIALLY WHEN PERIMENOPAUSAL VATA IS ADDRESSED ALONG WITH LOCAL CARE

Hello Thanks for reaching out. You’re definitely not alone—plantar fasciitis during perimenopause is really common, and Ayurveda actually has a lot to say about it.

The pain in your heels and soles isn’t just a foot thing. It’s your body reacting to hormonal changes, which stir up Vata and dry out your tissues.

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING

This falls under Vata Vyadhi, mostly because: - Perimenopause triggers Vata, which brings dryness, stiffness, and wear-and-tear. - Your bones, joints, and ligaments get weaker (that’s Asthi & Majja Dhatu Kshaya). - The plantar fascia—the ligament under your foot—gets involved and starts hurting.

If we look at it with a modern lens: - Dropping estrogen dries out your tissues. - Your plantar fascia can get tiny tears. - Things get inflamed and stiff.

So we’re not just talking about inflammation. It’s dryness, degeneration, and slow healing all rolled together.

Here’s how Ayurveda tackles this:

1. Internal Medicines (Shamana) 2. External treatments (super important!) 3. Diet and lifestyle changes

INTERNAL MEDICATION

- Yogaraj Guggulu: 2 tablets after meals, twice a day. Great for Vata pain, stiffness, and ligament issues.

- Dashmool Kwath: 20 ml mixed with 20 ml warm water, twice daily. Calms inflammation, soothes nerves.

- Shatavari Churna: Half a teaspoon with warm milk, twice daily. Balances hormones, nourishes, and lubricates tissues.

- Asthiposhak Vati: 1 tablet twice daily. Strengthens bones, ligaments, and fascia.

EXTERNAL TREATMENT

- Daily Oil Massage (Abhyanga): Rub Mahanarayan Taila or Sahacharadi Taila into your soles for about 10 minutes before bed.

- Hot Salt Water Soak: Soak your feet in warm water with rock salt for 15 minutes, then massage with oil. Just this alone can cut your pain in half in two weeks.

PERIMENOPAUSE SUPPORT

- Shatavari help with hot flashes, joint dryness, mood swings, and tissue degeneration.

- Remember, perimenopause is a Vata-heavy time, so think oil, warmth, and deep nourishment.

Diet (This really matters!)

- Skip: Cold drinks, dry foods (like crackers and toast), too much coffee, fasting, and late nights.

- Eat more: Ghee, warm milk, cooked veggies, rice, wheat, dates, almonds.

Lifestyle Tips

- Don’t go barefoot. - Use soft, cushioned shoes. - Stretch your calves every day. - No high-impact workouts. - Stick to gentle yoga.

Why Exercise Can Make It Worse

- Too much movement plus dryness pushes Vata up. If you walk a lot without enough “lubrication,” you just keep injuring your feet.

How Long Does Healing Take? If you stick to this: - 2 weeks: Pain starts dropping. - 4–6 weeks: Walking feels way easier. - 2–3 months: Full recovery is within reach.

Your plantar fasciitis isn’t just a random foot problem. It’s Vata degeneration from perimenopause. If you only treat your foot, the pain keeps coming back. But if you treat Vata throughout your whole system, you’ll actually heal. Oil, warmth, good food, and patience—these are your best medicines.

Take care, Dr. Snehal Vidhate

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the ligaments and fascia of the sole and heel become tight inflamed or strained Perimenopause can worsen this because fluctuating estrogen levels reduce tissue elasticity making the fascia more prone to tension and pain appears especially after walking standing or exercise and can radiate across the heel and bottom of the foot

Take ashwagandha powder half to one teaspoon with warm milk at night it strengthens muscles ligaments and calms vata Shallaki or boswellia 500 mg two capsules twice a day after meals it reduces inflammation and supports connective tissue Guggulu powder 250 mg two capsules twice a day after meals strengthens joints and ligaments

Make a warm paste of fenugreek seeds apply to the soles for 15 to 20 minutes daily it helps reduce local pain and inflammation Massage the feet and heels once a day with mohan tailam or warm coconut oil this relaxes muscles improves circulation and supports tissue repair

Follow a vata pacifying diet include warm cooked vegetables dals ghee and soups avoid cold raw foods excessive caffeine and sugar Light stretching and gentle yoga for feet and calves daily improves flexibility and reduces tension Use cushioned footwear and avoid prolonged standing on hard surfaces

I will suggest you to do one procedure at home. Take one brick heat it for half and hour thrn place it in a big steel tub only . Than pour dashmool kashaya water on top of that brick. Place your affected foot above the brick be sure not to touch the brick with your feet just enough so that fumes from brick will touch your sole of the feet do this for 5 days and be careful during this process. This is called ishtika savedana search on YouTube. As for the medicines 1. Tab shallaki 1 TID AF 2. Kanchnar guggul 2BD A F 3. R compound 1BD AF 4. Sandhillin lin for local application at night. Do this come for follow up after 15 days

HELLO,

What you are experiencing -Pain in both heels and the bottom of the feet -Pain worse after walking, standing, or exercise -Ongoing for several months -Pain interferes with daily life This matches Plantar Fasciitis in modern medicine

Ayurvedic Correlation= Vatakantaka -Vata = movement, dryness, pain -Kantaka = thorn-like pain In Ayurveda heel pain occurs when Vata dosha becomes aggravated and gets lodged in the heel and sole causing -Dryness of tissues -Tightness of fascia -Micro-injury and inflammation -Pain on first steps and after exertion

Why Perimenopause Is Making It Worse Perimenopause is a natural Vata-increasing phase of life

During this time -Estrogen fluctuates → tissues lose lubrication -Fascia, ligaments, and tendons become less elastic -Bone and connective tissue nourishment reduces -Pain perception increases So your condition is not just a foot problem - it is -Vata aggravation + hormonal transition + tissue dryness That is why pain is bilateral persistent and slow to heal

Treatment Goals -Pacify aggravated Vata -Reduce inflammation and pain -Nourish fascia, ligaments, bones -Support hormonal balance during perimenopause -Prevent recurrence

Internal Treatment

1) Yograj Guggulu= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 8 weeks with warm water =Best classical medicine for Vata disorders, Reduces inflammation, Improves circulation to joints and fascia, Helpful in chronic heel pain

2) Dashamoola Kashaya = 20ml with equal water twice daily before meals for 6 weeks =Reduces pain, stiffness, and inflammation, Acts systemically not just locally

3) Guduchi Satva= 500mg twice daily with warm water after meals for 8 weeks =Reduces tissue inflammation, Supports healing of fascia, Improves immunity and metabolism during hormonal changes

4) Shatavari Kalpa= 1 tsp at night with warm milk for 3 months =Natural hormonal balancer, Reduces dryness caused by estrogen fluctuation, Nourishes deeper tissues , Prevents worsening of Vata during perimenopause

If pain is more severe -Maharasnadi Kashaya= 20 ml twice daily before meals with warm water for 6 weeks Especially useful for lower limb and heel pain

External Treatment

1) Daily Oil Massage = Mahanarayana Taila =Directly pacifies Vata, Improves blood flow, Softens fascia, Reduces morning pain Method -Warm oil -Massage soles, heels, ankles for 10–15 minutes -Preferably at night -Wear cotton socks after massage

2) Hot Foot Soak Method -Warm water -Add rock salt + Dashamoola powder -Soak feet for 15 minutes =Relaxes tight fascia, Reduces stiffness and pain

3) Herbal Poultice Ingredients -Castor oil -Dry ginger powder -Wheat flour Method -Warm paste -Apply on heel -Bandage overnight -3–4 times per week

Diet -Warm, freshly cooked food -Ghee, sesame oil -Milk boiled with turmeric or Shatavari -Dates, figs, soaked almonds -Well-cooked vegetables

Avoid -Dry foods (biscuits, crackers) -Cold drinks -Excess coffee or tea -Skipping meals -Raw, cold, or refrigerated food

Lifestyle Avoid -Walking barefoot on hard floors -Standing for long periods -High-impact exercise -Cold exposure to feet

Helpful Habits -Supportive footwear with soft sole -Gentle walking -Regular sleep routine -Warm oil massage before bath

Yoga (Do with cushion or support) -Tadasana -Vajrasana (with soft padding) -Pawanmuktasana -Gentle calf and sole stretches

Pranayama -Nadi Shodhana (balances hormones & Vata) -Bhramari (reduces pain perception & stress)

Simple Home Remedies -Turmeric milk at night (anti-inflammatory) -Castor oil massage on soles before sleep -Warm sesame oil in winter -Avoid cold water on feet

Expected Healing Timeline -Pain reduction: 2–3 weeks -Functional improvement: 6–8 weeks -Long-term stability: 3 months Because the root cause includes perimenopause consistency is more important than speed.

Your heel pain is not just mechanical-it is a systemic Vata imbalance triggered by hormonal transition. When we -Calm Vata -Nourish tissues -Support hormonal balance the body heals naturally and recurrence reduces

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA
