From an Ayurvedic perspective, the leg swelling appearing before periods after starting Shatavari, Lodhra, Ashwagandha, and Phalasarpis may indicate a temporary increase in Kapha and fluid retention (Kleda vriddhi) or impaired movement of Apana Vata. However, because you are 40 years old, have a history of two missed miscarriages, and mention a history of heart-related problems, swelling should not be assumed to be only medicine-related. Ayurvedic Assessment Your symptoms suggest: Kapha accumulation → swelling and heaviness in legs Vata imbalance → pain in legs, reproductive difficulties, recurrent pregnancy loss Agnimandya (weak digestive fire) → fluid retention and low energy Hormonal fluctuations before menstruation can further aggravate water retention. What You Can Do Now 1. Do not stop all medicines abruptly The medicines were likely prescribed to support fertility and uterine health. Reducing the dosage temporarily Reviewing whether Phalasarpis or Shatavari is causing excess Kapha accumulation in your constitution 2. Follow a Kapha-reducing diet for 7–10 days Prefer: Warm water throughout the day Light, freshly cooked meals Moong dal soup Cooked vegetables Ginger, cumin, coriander, ajwain in food Avoid: Excess salt Curd, especially at night Cold drinks Fried foods Excess sweets and bakery products 3. For swelling You may take: Punarnava decoction , as Punarnava is traditionally used in Ayurveda for edema and fluid accumulation. Warm water infused with a small piece of dry ginger if digestion allows. 4. Lifestyle Avoid prolonged sitting or standing. Elevate the legs for 15–20 minutes twice daily. Gentle walking can help improve circulation. Ensure adequate sleep.
