how to control excessive sweating in face - #22719

Aman

I'm facing a persistent issue for quite some time now — my face, especially the forehead, nose, and cheeks, tends to sweat excessively even with mild activity, slight heat, or while cooking in the kitchen. I follow a basic skincare routine using a gentle cleanser (Cetaphil) and a salicylic acid-based face wash. However, despite this, my face becomes completely drenched in sweat with even a bit of physical activity or heat, almost like I’ve just washed it. This has become quite uncomfortable for me on a daily basis and sometimes leads to awkward social situations. While researching online, I came across information about glycopyrrolate tablets as a possible solution. I want to know if this is a safe and effective option for me. Also, if there are any topical treatments or safer alternatives, I’d really appreciate your suggestions. Additionally, my skin is oily and acne-prone, though the acne is not severe. So I’m hoping for a targeted solution that helps manage sweating without causing irritation or making my skin worse.

Excessive sweating on the face, also known as facial hyperhidrosis, can indeed be a challenging condition to manage. In Ayurveda, this may relate to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which influences both heat and moisture in the body. To manage this, we’ll look at some practical Ayurvedic recommendations along with addressing your queries about medication and skincare.

Firstly, glycopyrrolate tablets are sometimes prescribed for hyperhidrosis, but it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional, preferably a dermatologist, before considering such options, as there are potential side effects you must be aware of. In the meantime, there are safer and more natural methods you might try.

Consider incorporating these Ayurvedic practices to help balance excessive sweating:

1. Dietary Adjustments: Since your skin is oily and acne-prone, it might benefit from a Pitta-pacifying diet. This involves avoiding spicy, oily, and hot foods that can exacerbate Pitta. Instead, choose cooling foods such as cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens, which can help calm internal heat and reduce sweat.

2. Herbal Supports: Application of sandalwood paste can have a cooling effect. You can also try making a mixture with rose water, which you can spritz on your face for instant refreshment. These have a soothing, cooling effect on the skin and can help control sweat naturally.

3. Yoga and Breathing exercises: Practice Sheetali Pranayama (cooling breath) and Shavasana (Corpse pose) regularly. These practices help to calm the body’s internal fire.

4. Lifestyle Modifications: Ensure to wear loose, breathable clothing especially in warm conditions to allow air circulation. Cotton fabrics can be more comfortable, too.

5. Skin Care Routine Adjustments: Since you are already using a gentle cleanser and a face wash, ensure they are not too drying as this can sometimes signal your skin to produce more oil. Splash your face with cool water frequently, it might help.

6. Hydration: Make sure you are keeping well hydrated. Sipping on mint or fennel tea throughout the day may also aid in keeping Pitta under control.

These steps won’t cause irritation like some medications might, and have multiple benefits for skin and overall health. Always touch base with a healthcare provider or Ayurvedic expert before making significant changes, especially with new supplements or significant dietary changes.
