is dalia good for diabetes - #23676

Ellie

I am really curious if dalia is good for diabetes because my uncle was recently diagnosed, and he's struggling with meal ideas. We always thought of dalia as a healthy grain, but now when I search, I see mixed info. Last week we made him some dalia khichdi, and he said he loves it. But then I read somewhere that some grains can spike blood sugar and that it can be a challenge managing carbs with diabetes! He’s also dealing with some other symptoms, fatigue and sometimes being a bit dizzy after meals, and it got me thinking. Are there different types of dalia? Is white dalia fine or should we be looking for a specific kind for better blood sugar control? What should be the portion sizes? And should we pair it with something else to make it more balanced for him? I honestly just want to support him, like, are there other foods that are good too? Just trying to make sure we are on the right track here. Is dalia good for diabetes, and if so, how can we make it work in his diet without compromising anything? Thx for any advice!

Don’t worry daliya can be a good option and you can try to include more jowar or quinoa in his diet But keep in mind moderation is the key slowly incorporate this in his diet with lots of veggies .

Then make it routine By changing millets weekly

Dalia, or broken wheat, is indeed generally a good choice for those managing diabetes, as it has a low glycemic index, meaning it can help in maintaining stable blood sugar levels. In Ayurveda, dalia is considered a sattvic food, meaning it promotes clarity and balance. As it is high in fiber, it aids in digestion and helps maintain stable blood glucose levels.

It’s important to know that there are different types of dalia, usually categorized by whole wheat and refined wheat. Whole wheat dalia retains more fiber and nutrients, thus being preferable for those trying to control blood sugar. Your uncle might want to opt for whole wheat over white dalia as a more nutritious option.

Portion control is key here. A serving size of about half cup of cooked dalia is generally recommended, but it’s worthwhile to keep an eye on his blood sugar responses to different meals. Pairing dalia with proteins and healthy fats can further stabilize his blood sugar levels. You could integrate it with lentils, such as in dalia khichdi, vegetables, or even nuts, which can also add flavor.

Eating meals at regular times can also help manage his energy levels and prevent fatigue or dizziness after meals. These symptoms might indicate a bigger issue with how meals are balanced, so it’s essential to observe how his body responds.

In terms of other foods beneficial for diabetes, incorporating green leafy vegetables, legumes, and low-GI fruits like berries can be advantageous. Also, curating a plan that includes yoga or simple physical activities can greatly complement his dietary efforts.

If dizziness or fatigue persists, it would be prudent to seek medical advice to rule out other potential issues. While Ayurveda can provide great support, integrating his care with modern medical approaches is ideal for his overall well-being.
