Hairfall can often be a distressing issue, and from an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s often linked to imbalances in the doshas, specifically Pitta. The excessive heat generated by Pitta dosha can weaken hair follicles, leading to hairfall and thinning. Addressing this requires a holistic approach which includes dietary changes, lifestyle adjustments, and specific herbal treatments.

First, consider your diet. To pacify Pitta, emphasize cooling foods. Consume more vegetables like cucumber, zucchini, and sweet potatoes, and include fruits such as melons, pears, and berries. Reduce spicy, fried, and overly sour foods. Hydration is also key—drink ample water and incorporate cooling drinks like coconut water.

In terms of lifestyle, stress management is crucial as stress can worsen Pitta balance. Incorporate daily practices of meditation or yoga to help calm the mind. Try to maintain regular sleep patterns, aiming for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night which supports hair follicle rejuvenation.

Massaging the scalp can promote circulation, nourish hair follicles, and help in hair regrowth. Use warm coconut oil or bhringraj oil for scalp massages, leave it for an hour, and wash with a mild shampoo. Do this twice a week. Bhringraj oil is known for its rejuvenating properties for hair.

Herbal remedies are also significant. Consider taking amla (Indian gooseberry) in any form you prefer—juice, powder, or raw. It’s rich in vitamin C and powerful antioxidants, aiding in strengthening hair and reducing hairfall.

Lastly, ensure good digestion as it’s the source of nourishment to body tissues, including hair. Herbs like triphala can aid digestion and assimilation of nutrients.

If despite implementing these adjustments your hairfall continues, it’s advisable to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner for a more tailored treatment plan. They can assess your individual condition more deeply and guide you effectively.

Hair fall can be a complex issue, often tied to multiple factors including your prakriti or body constitution. In Siddha-Ayurvedic tradition, we look closely at balancing the doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—since an imbalance can lead to hair fall. Start by focusing on balancing Pitta, as excess Pitta can lead to hair thinning and scalp issues.

Begin by modifying your diet to cool down the Pitta. Avoid spicy, oily, and acidic foods; instead incorporate cooling, sweet, and bitter foods like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Try consuming a teaspoon of amla (Indian gooseberry) powder with warm water in the morning, as it’s rich in vitamin C and can reduce Pitta dosha.

Massage your scalp gently with bhringraj oil or coconut oil twice a week. These oils are known for their cooling effects and can strengthen the hair roots, reduce hair fall, and help regrowth. Let the oil absorb for at least an hour before washing your hair with a mild herbal shampoo.

Try to maintain a regular sleep pattern and manage your stress levels, as both are vital for maintaining doshic balance and preventing hair fall. Practicing yoga or meditation can be particularly beneficial.

It’s important also to address internal health. This may involve taking herbal supplements, such as ashwagandha and brahmi, which support overall well-being and reduce stress.

Finally, consider consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can offer personalized advice based on your unique prakriti and current health condition. They can also help determine if further tweaking of lifestyle or dietary habits is needed. Remember to stay consistent with these practices; changes in hair health can take time.
