First, consider incorporating calming and cooling practices. Daily routine (dinacharya) is important. Start your morning with Abhyanga, which is a self-massage using warm sesame or almond oil. Focus on massaging the scalp, temples, and neck — areas often involved in migraine pain. This can help pacify Vata and provide some relief from the pulsating pain.
Diet can play a vital role in managing migraines. Emphasize a Pitta-pacifying diet, especially close to and during your period. Include cooling, hydrating foods like cucumber, watermelon, and cilantro. Avoid spicy, fermented, and overly salty foods, which could aggravate Pitta. Ensure your meals are regular, as skipping meals can disturb Vata.
Additionally, maintaining a healthy digestion (agni) is crucial. Sipping on triphala tea before bed might aid in keeping your agni balanced. Prepare by steeping ½ teaspoon of triphala in a cup of warm water.
