Seborrheic dermatitis, as you experience on your scalp, can be associated with imbalanced Pitta and Kapha doshas according to Ayurveda. Post-delivery, the body undergoes significant changes, potentially exacerbating such conditions. Addressing this condition requires a holistic approach focusing on diet, lifestyle, and external treatments.
First, consider dietary modifications to pacify Pitta and Kapha. Minimize the intake of sour, spicy, and fried foods as they can aggravate your symptoms. Increase the intake of leafy greens, fresh fruits, and whole grains. Incorporating turmeric and ginger into your daily diet could help since these are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Ensure that you’ll drink plenty of lukewarm water throughout the day, as hydration can aid in balancing your body.
In terms of lifestyle, stress reduction is crucial. Post-partum stress might contribute to your condition. Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga, focusing on stress-relieving poses like Shavasana. Maintain a regular sleep pattern and aim for at least 7 to 8 hours of good quality sleep.
Now, for topical treatments, try using coconut oil infused with neem leaves as a scalp massage oil. This should be applied to the scalp gently and left overnight or at least for a few hours before washing. Neem has antibacterial and antifungal properties which can relieve itching and reduce inflammation. Alternatively, you may use Brahmi oil, known for calming the scalp and improving overall hair health.
If the dandruff persists, apply a paste of multani mitti mixed with rosewater to the scalp twice a week, leaving it for 30 minutes before washing it off with a mild herbal shampoo. Dry hair can be remedied by occasional application of natural aloe vera gel before shampooing, which can restore moisture to the hair without clogging scalp pores.
Finally, regular check-ins with your healthcare provider is recommended to monitor your scalp condition, especially after childbirth, when the body’s systems might be more sensitive.
