Hair loss, especially with PCOS, can be caused by hormonal imbalances, stress, and nutrient deficiencies. Ayurveda suggests balancing the hormones and promoting hair health from within. For this, you can use Bhringraj, Amla, Brahmi, and Shatavari, which are known to strengthen hair and balance Pitta and Vata doshas. Regular use of hair oils like Bhringraj oil or Amla oil can also nourish the scalp and support hair growth. It’s important to address the root cause by managing PCOS through diet, lifestyle changes, and regular exercise. A balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins, along with stress management, can also make a significant difference. It might be helpful to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized treatment plan to manage both PCOS and hair loss effectively.

Hair fall, especially when it’s been going on for so long, can feel really frustrating. And with PCOS in the picture, it can get even trickier, doesn’t help that you’ve tried a bunch of stuff and it just doesn’t seem to let up. From an Ayurvedic point of view, we take a step back to look at your whole body’s balance—especially with those doshas we talk about so much.

With PCOS, there’s often an imbalance in what we call Pitta and Kapha doshas. It can lead to ama (toxins) building up. Your hair is a reflection of your internal state, so what’s happening inside is definitely linked to what you’re noticing outside. And with PCOS, hormonal fluctuations can really affect hair growth cycles.

First things first, addressing your diet could be impactful. Think about incorporating foods that pacify Pitta and Kapha. Like including more bitter and astringent veggies—like bitter gourd or leafy greens. Trust me, they’re powerful. Avoid spicy, overly salty foods, and especially reduce refined sugars because it messes with insulin which you don’t want with PCOS.

Drinking a concoction of Triphala in lukewarm water before bedtime can help clear out ama, aiding in digestion and nourishment for your hair follicles. It’s a classic remedy with a lot of strengths. Also Brahmi oil for massaging the scalp—it can be calming for excess Pitta and help improve circulation to boost hair health. If stress is a factor, something as simple as setting aside 15 minutes a day for deep breathing or meditation can work wonders.

Lastly, hydration is key. Drinking water that’s warmed with a touch of cumin or coriander seeds can help regulate your doshas, promoting detoxification. With all these adjustments, it might take some time to see changes. And remember, consistency with Ayurveda is key. It’s more a lifestyle change than a quick fix. You may also want to keep in touch with your healthcare provider to monitor your PCOS, since it’s all connected.
