Doctors' responses

I understand how distressing persistent hair patches and hair loss can be. This condition could be related to an imbalance in the Vata and Pitta doshas, affecting hair health and causing conditions like alopecia areata or chronic hair thinning. To address this, I recommend focusing on nourishing your scalp and hair follicles with Ayurvedic oils like Bhringraj, Amla, and Neem, which promote hair growth, strengthen roots, and reduce inflammation. Massaging your scalp regularly with warm sesame oil or coconut oil can help stimulate blood circulation and balance the doshas. Internally, herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Amla are excellent for rejuvenating hair health and reducing stress, which is often a trigger for hair loss. Additionally, a diet rich in antioxidants, healthy fats (like ghee), and protein will support hair growth.

Dealing with hair patches can be quite distressing, especially if it’s been a struggle for years. In Ayurveda, we consider hair health to be closely linked with your overall body balance, particularly the balance of your doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Hair patchiness, or alopecia, often hints at an imbalance, usually involving Pitta dosha, combined with some Vata factors that can lead to dry scalp and hair fall.

First thing, dietary factors. Eating right can calm these doshas down. Try reducing foods that are overly spicy, sour, or even too oily, as they might aggravate Pitta. Include more cooling and nourishing foods like coconut, soaked almonds, pumpkin seeds, and fresh greens. Keep your meals regular. Having meals at odd hours or eating just before bedtime can mess with agni (digestive fire), affecting nutrient absorption which your hair needs.

Herbs like Bhringraj or Amla are known in Ayurveda for promoting hair health. You could incorporate Bhringraj oil into your daily scalp massage routine; it helps with blood circulation on the scalp, nourishing hair follicles and restoring natural color. Don’t rub too hard tho, gentle circular motions for about 10 mins should do. Do that before bed.

Also, stress is a silent enemy of hair health. If stress is something you suspect, start with simple breathing exercises or meditation daily. Try to sleep by 10 PM. Poor sleep is a notorious dosha agitator as well.

Just remember, healing body’s like weaving a tapestry — it takes time and patience. If the patches continue to worsen, or if you’re seeing a rapid loss, it might be time to consult a specialist. Sometimes integrating modern medicine with Ayurveda, under careful guidance, can offer a more comprehensive solution.

Hang in there, and I genuinely hope you see some positive changes soon. 🙂
