A few months ago, my brother injured his knee while playing football, and the doctor diagnosed it as an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear. He was advised to rest, undergo physiotherapy, and possibly consider surgery, depending on the severity. While we are following medical advice, I want to understand—what is the typical ACL injury recovery time, and does Ayurveda offer natural ways to speed up healing and strengthen the knee? From what I understand, ACL injuries can take anywhere from a few months to a year to fully heal, depending on whether surgery is required. Since Ayurveda classifies ligament and joint injuries under Vata and Mamsa Dhatu imbalances, does this mean that an aggravated Vata could slow down healing by weakening joint stability? Could poor nutritional absorption, low Ojas (vital energy), or excess strain on the knee be affecting his recovery? One of my biggest concerns is that my brother is experiencing persistent swelling, stiffness, and occasional pain despite resting. Since Ayurveda promotes reducing inflammation naturally, does it recommend any herbal formulations, anti-inflammatory foods, or external applications to help manage pain and swelling? Would using Mahanarayan oil, Dashmool decoction, or warm turmeric paste help reduce joint stiffness and promote healing? Another issue is that he is worried about regaining full knee strength and mobility after recovery. Since I want to take a complementary and natural approach, I am looking for the best Ayurvedic treatments, lifestyle modifications, and herbal remedies to help improve ACL injury recovery time and ensure long-term knee strength.
