Nosebleeds, especially when frequent, can be quite bothersome, and in Ayurveda, they’re often linked to imbalances in Pitta dosha. This heat element can dry out and irritate the nasal passages, leading to such issues.

Given your age and the fact that your mucous membrane is thin, it’s important to gentlely restore balance without causing further irritation. A practical first step is to manage Pitta with cooling and hydrating remedies. Apply a few drops of lukewarm ghee (clarified butter) or sesame oil in each nostril twice daily. This acts like a natural moisturizer, protecting the delicate tissues in your nose.

Do include cooling foods in your diet. Fresh dairy products like milk or buttermilk can provide a calming effect. Opt for sweet fruits like melons, grapes, or pears as snacks. Avoid spicy foods that can aggravate Pitta. Staying hydrated is vital, so drink plenty of water throughout the day, preferably at room temperature.

Herbs like Yashtimadhu (licorice) can help strengthen and cool your nasal passages. You could drink it as a decoction; simply boil half a teaspoon in a cup of water until it’s half reduced, then sip it warm.

Consider practicing pranayama, specifically Sheetali or Sheetkari breathing which can cool down the body’s internal environment. Find a quiet place, inhale through the mouth with a cooling hiss, and exhale through the nose.

Be mindful of environmental factors too, such as keeping your bedroom humidity at a comfortable level to avoid dryness. You can do this by using a humidifier.

However, while these suggestions may help, it is always recommended to work alongside an Ayurvedic practitioner to monitor changes carefully and adjust the approach if necessary. If your symptoms persist or worsen, seeking further medical evaluation is crucial. Your well-being comes first, and timely medical advice can sometimes be essential.
