Frequent urination can often be unsettling, especially if it is linked to prostate gland enlargement, which is quite common as men age. Ayurveda offers several approaches that may help in managing this condition by focusing on balancing the body's doshas and supporting the urinary functions. First, consider dietary changes. Avoid spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, and salt as they may aggrevate the condition or lead to irritation of the bladder. Include more cooling and hydrating foods in your diet; like cucumber, watermelon, and leafy greens. Barley water is also beneficial as it supports the kidneys and aids urinary health. Then, try some herbal remedies that are known to support prostate health. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris), is particularly helpful. Often recommended in Ayurveda for supporting the urinary system and reducing swelling. Consume it in powder form with a glass of warm water in the morning. Alongside, Varuna (Crataeva nurvela) also helps promote a smooth bladder function and should be taken as advised by a certified practitioner. A person of Pitta dosha in particular might benefit from cooling herbs like Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus). These help in cooling the bodily system, and nourishment. As a Pitta calming herb, Shatavari can be consumed as a powder mixed with milk. Yoga and gentle exercises help strengthen pelvic muscles. 'Uttanasana' (Forward Bend) and 'Setu Bandhasana' (Bridge Pose) are beneficial in improving circulation and enhancing muscle tone. Try meditating with a focus on breathing to relax and relieve stress, which can influence bladder control. Finally, it’s vital to ensure your lifestyle supports regular routine. Avoid holding urine for prolonged periods as it can lead to further issues, instead, plan bathroom breaks to allow for comfortable, healthy intervals. If experiencing any pain, discomfort, or worsening symptoms, seek immediate medical attention. A professional urologist can provide a clear diagnosis and treatment options. Regular check-ups are recommended to monitor your prostate health and prevent complications. Balancing proactive self-care with medical wisdom can be key to managing this condition effectively.
