Bloating and a persistent appearance of a distended abdomen can indeed be uncomfortable. In Ayurveda, this may be related to an imbalance in the doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta, which can affect indigestion and lead to the build-up of gas. Achieving a flat tummy through diet alone may be challenging, but incorporating specific foods and practices may reduce bloating significantly.

Firstly, consider your dietary habits. Favor warm, cooked meals over raw and cold foods, as they are generally easier to digest and can calm the digestive fire, or Agni. Incorporate spices such as cumin, fennel, and coriander into your cooking; these are known to aid digestion and reduce bloating. Drinking warm water or herbal teas, like ginger tea, can stimulate digestion and help cleanse the intestines.

Pay attention to your meal timings. Have your heaviest meal in the middle of the day when the digestive fire is strongest. Eat a light dinner to ease digestion overnight. Avoid processed foods, carbonated beverages, and overly spicy or greasy dishes, as they can exacerbate bloating symptoms.

Regarding lifestyle, you’re already taking good steps by walking regularly. Aim to walk post meals, as this can aid digestion. Additionally, consider practicing mild pranayama (breathing exercises) like Anulom Vilom or Bhastrika, which can balance Vata and improve digestion.

Externally, apply warm sesame oil on your abdomen and massage it gently in circular motions; this can help relieve gas. Practice yoga asanas like Pavanamuktasana and Apanasana which specifically helps in releasing gas and toning the abdominal muscles.

While dietary changes and physical activity can help, it might be beneficial to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide a personalized regime based on your specific constitution and health status. If your symptoms persist or worsen, consulting a healthcare professional is recommended to rule out any other underlying conditions. Balancing your doshas through these adjustments can pave the way for not only reducing bloating but enhancing overall wellbeing.

Dealing with post-delivery bloating and a distended abdomen can be a quite common experience, especially if it’s been exacerbated by gastritis as you mentioned in your previous note. From the Siddha-Ayurvedic lens, this condition could relate to an imbalance in the vata and kapha doshas. Digestive fire, or agni, may also be compromised, leading to issues like bloating.

To address this primarily through diet, focus on balancing your doshas and boosting agni. Here are a few suggestions specific to your situation:

1. Start your day with warm water infused with ginger and a pinch of turmeric. Both these items aid in stimulating agni and reducing kapha-related stagnation, potentially aiding in bloating reduction.

2. Include easily digestible foods like moong dal (split mung beans) and rice in your daily meals. These are gentle on the stomach and can help balance vata.

3. Avoid cold, raw, and processed foods such as salads, refrigerated drinks, and packaged snacks. Such items can dampen agni and increase vata, leading to more bloating.

4. Use digestive spices liberally in your cooking. Cumin, coriander, fennel, and asafoetida (hing) can be incorporated into meals to promote digestion and prevent retention of gas.

5. Try consuming a small piece of jaggery after meals; it is thought to support digestion and can help diminish the feeling of bloating.

Improving this condition with diet alone may take time. While keeping active with regular walking is beneficial for overall health, these dietary changes will work synergistically to harmonize your body’s processes. If symptoms persist or worsen, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare provider, who can assess for any underlying condition needing prompt attention.
