Having experienced a stroke for over 5 years, there’s a significant challenge in achieving complete recovery. In Ayurveda, while the emphasis is on balance and prevention, there is potential for improvement in quality of life and function through tailored approaches. It is vital to understand, however, that the treatment may not entirely reverse the paralysis but can help improving mobility, strength and overall well-being with consistent efforts.

The condition you’re describing often involves an aggravated Vata dosha, which is responsible for movements and nervous system function in the body. In Ayurveda, focus would be on techniques that pacify and balance Vata. Abhyanga or regular oil massages using medicated oils like Mahanarayan Tailam or Dhanwanthari Tailam can help in enhancing circulation and reducing stiffness. Panchakarma therapies like Basti (herbal enemas) can be considered under professional supervision to detoxify the body and balance Vata.

Herbal remedies such as Ashwagandha and Brahmi may support nerve function and promote cognitive health. However, it’s essential to consult an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner to recommend specific formulations for your mother’s needs. A balanced diet favoring warm, cooked, and nourishing foods that do not aggravate Vata is crucial. Incorporating warming spices such as ginger, turmeric, and cumin into her meals could provide additional benefits.

Progress also depends significantly on integrating consistent Ayurvedic therapies with physical rehabilitation and conventional medical care. Stroke patients often benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach, which Ayurvedic interventions can complement without replacing conventional treatment.

For finding the best place for treatment, major Ayurvedic centers such as Arya Vaidya Sala in Kottakkal, Kerala, or any trusted local Ayurveda clinics with expertise in treating neurological conditions could be beneficial. Visiting a certified Ayurvedic professional will provide a treatment plan tailored to her individual constitution and condition.

Stroke recovery, particularly after several years, can be a complex process and Ayurveda can offer supportive treatments that may help improve quality of life by managing symptoms and nourishing the body’s tissues. While complete recovery solely through Ayurveda might not always be guaranteed, integrating Siddha-Ayurvedic practices with conventional treatment can be beneficial.

In Ayurveda, a stroke is often associated with vata imbalance affecting the nervous system and srotas (channels). Restoration involves balancing vata and rekindling agni, which is crucial for recovery. Start by focusing on a vata-pacifying diet: warm, well-cooked meals with ghee, sweet, and salty flavors, avoiding dry, cold, and heavy foods.

Abhyanga, or daily oil massage with warm sesame oil, can support vata balance and improve circulation in the affected area. Following this with a gentle steam therapy may help further in relaxing muscles and easing stiffness. These practices should ideally be guided by a skilled Ayurvedic practitioner.

Medicinally, herbs like Ashwagandha and Brahmi might assist by helping enhance nerve function and improve mental clarity. However, any herbal supplementation should be personalized by an expert who can align treatment with her specific dosha and health conditions.

Consider therapies available in specialist Ayurvedic centers for Panchakarma, which involves detoxification and rejuvenation processes. These centers are located in various parts of India, especially Kerala, known for authentic Siddha-Ayurvedic practices.

While Ayurveda might offer supportive therapy, it is vital to continue any prescribed allopathic treatments for stroke management, as they play a critical role in preventing future complications and ensuring safety. Keep in mind, Ayurvedic treatment should complement rather than replace current medical advice. For the best outcome, consult both an Ayurvedic and a conventional healthcare provider familiar with stroke management.
