Yellowing of the teeth can be a result of several factors including poor oral hygiene, certain food and drinks, smoking, or even genetic predisposition. From an Ayurvedic perspective, let’s explore some holistic approaches to address this.

A good starting point is the practice of oil pulling, an traditional Ayurvedic oral cleansing technique. Using sesame or coconut oil, take a tablespoon into your mouth and swish it around for 10–20 minutes daily. It’s best to do this before brushing your teeth in the morning. The oil not only assists in removing toxins and bacteria but also aids in maintaining the natural white color of your teeth.

Next, consider what you consume. Certain foods and drinks can stain teeth, like tea, coffee, or red wine. Minimize their intake, or make sure to rinse your mouth with water after consumption. Also, including more fibrous fruits and vegetables, such as apples and carrots, can aid in a natural cleaning process due to their abrasive texture.

For a more direct application, you can utilize a homemade scrub. Mix a small amount of turmeric powder with a bit of water to form a paste. Apply it to your teeth with a toothbrush and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Repeat this remedy 2-3 times a week. Turmeric has natural whitening properties.

Additionally, maintaining a balanced diet that supports Agni, or digestive fire, is crucial for overall health, including oral health. Consuming meals at the right times, avoiding junk foods, and ensuring that your doshas are in balance can make your body (and teeth) healthier overall.

Finally, remember with Ayurveda, it is not just about short-term solutions, but instead, a long-term commitment to a lifestyle change. Follow the above suggestions consistently, aiming for change over weeks and months instead of days. If the discoloration of your teeth is causing significant distress, consider consulting a healthcare professional for further advice.

Teeth discoloration often reflects an imbalance in your body’s dosha, potentially related to dietary habits, lifestyle or oral hygiene practices. In Siddha-Ayurvedic terms, yellow teeth could indicate kapha or pitta imbalance. To address the root cause and promote oral health, consider the following Ayurvedic approaches.

Firstly, focus on maintaining excellent oral hygiene with oil pulling, a traditional practice. Use about a tablespoon of sesame or coconut oil, swish it around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning, and then spit it out and rinse your mouth. This helps remove toxins and brightens teeth naturally over time.

Incorporate triphala powder into your daily routine, which is renowned for its detoxifying properties. Mix half a teaspoon of triphala powder with warm water and drink before bedtime. It aids in balancing the doshas and promoting healthier gums, which indirectly supports whiter teeth.

Diet also plays a key role; limit intake of stain-causing foods and beverages like coffee, tea, and processed sugars. Instead, increase consumption of raw crunchy fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, and celery; they help remove plaque naturally.

Baking soda mixed with water can be applied once a week to the teeth; gently brush and rinse thoroughly. This acts as a mild abrasive that can help in removing surface stains. Avoid replacing this with your usual brushing routine, as excessive use can harm the enamel.

Lastly, ensure you’re hydrated, sipping water frequently, as it aids in saliva production, maintaining oral pH balance and preventing dry mouth. If yellowing persists or worsens, consider consulting a dental professional, as it may signal deeper dental issues requiring immediate attention.
