Acne, as you’ve discovered, is often deeply connected to our internal balance and overall health. From an Ayurvedic perspective, acne is mostly related to imbalances in the doshas, particularly Pitta and sometimes Kapha. When Pitta becomes aggravated—due to stress, diet, or lifestyle habits—it leads to inflammation and toxins (ama) in the body which manifest as acne. Kapha can also contribute by clogging and blocking the pathways due to excessive oiliness or sluggish metabolism.

To address this from root, focusing on pacifying Pitta, and sometimes Kapha, can be beneficial. So, let’s break this down:

Firstly, it’s crucial to evaluate your diet. Reduce foods that aggravate Pitta like spicy, fried, and oily foods. Favor a diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Foods with cooling properties like cucumber, watermelon, and coconut water can help soothe Pitta. Drink plenty of water to keep your system hydrated.

Second, your daily routine—Dinacharya. Start each day by drinking a glass of warm water with some lemon juice which can help in detoxing your body. Follow this with Abhyanga (oil massage) with cooling oils like coconut or sunflower oil, which can help balance Pitta.

Practice yoga and pranayama which aids in reducing stress and establishing hormonal harmony. Asanas that open the chest like Bhujangasana or Dhanurasana can be helpful.

You might also consider herbs like neem, turmeric, and manjishtha, known for their blood-purifying and anti-inflammatory properties. These can be taken as supplements or applied topically as face masks.

If scars are a major concern, products with Kumkumadi oil, known in Ayurveda for its skin-regenerating properties, might be helpful. Apply a few drops on your face and gently massage it at night.

However, it’s important to understand complex conditions like yours can sometimes require personalized consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner, who can further precisely determine your prakriti and any underlying issues to provide more targeted advice. Always remember to consult a professional before starting new treatments.
