Is bleaching with coconut oil in hair effective and safe for all hair types? - #22270

Noah

I am dealing with this issue of hair color lately, and I heard that bleaching with coconut oil in hair can be a solution. But I'm kinda confused, like my hair is already super dry and frizzy, and I don't want to make it worse. So, the other day, I tried using coconut oil before bleaching, thinking it would protect my hair. But honestly, I don't know if that really helped. I mean, I applied a good amount, but it just feels so brittle after I bleached. Has anyone had experience with bleaching with coconut oil in hair? Does it actually work? I read that it can help in some cases, but I'm not sure how it works for different hair types. Anyone who has tried this, did the coconut oil actually make a difference or was it just a waste of time? Also, if you did, how did your hair feel afterwards? Mine feels heavy and greasy more than anything else even after washing it. Just feeling worried that I'm damaging it too much. Any advice would be super helpful, thanks!

Bleaching hair with coconut oil doesn't directly change the bleaching process but it can provide some conditioning benefits. Coconut oil is known in Ayurveda for its nourishing and cooling properties, which can be beneficial in mitigating the harshness of chemical treatments to an extent, but it's not a foolproof shield. For dry and frizzy hair especially, the oil can help reduce protein loss during bleaching, but overuse or improper application might make hair feel greasy or heavy as you've experienced. If bleaching left your hair brittle, it may indicate deeper hair damage that coconut oil alone can't fix. Different hair types respond differently - what works for one may not for another. The dosha—vata, pitta, kapha—predominance in your constitution could guide a more tailored treatment. For vata types, whose hair are typically dry and brittle, treatments that involve nourishing oils like sesame and coconut are recommended, but within limits. Pitta hair, being more prone to issues under stress, could need soothing and cooling practices, whereas kapha types may not require as much oiliness. Instead of relying solely on oil during bleaching, try applying coconut oil the night before and washing it out before the bleaching process to balance nourishment and manageability. Post bleaching, consider using Brahmi and Amla infused hair masks to strengthen the support the hair. Rinsing hair with herbal decoctions like hibiscus or fenugreek may provide added benefit. An Ayurvedic diet focusing on seasonal fruits and vegetable intake can also help hair health. Stay hydrated and regularly consume aloe vera juice for internal nourishment. If the brittleness persists, consider consulting a professional hair stylist or trichologist. They can evaluate the degree of damage and recommend professional treatments. It's crucial to protect hair from further damage. Give your hair time to recover between any chemical processes, avoiding the temptation to bleach again too soon.
