Doctors’ responses

At 6.5 months, babies' systems are still quite sensitive, so when considering Ayurvedic remedies like tulsi water, it's crucial to proceed with caution. Tulsi, known for its immune-boosting and antiviral properties, can indeed offer some support, but it's important to do it properly. First, prepare a mild tulsi infusion. Take 3-4 leaves of fresh tulsi, wash them properly, and then crush them slightly to release their beneficial properties. Add the leaves to around one cup of boiling water, and then let it simmer for 5 minutes. After that, let the water cool to room temperature, so it’s safe for the baby to drink. When giving this to your infant, start very gradually. At first, offer just a teaspoon of the cooled tulsi water. Observe how your baby reacts to it, checking for any signs of discomfort or allergies. Tulsi can be strong, even in infants, and it’s always better to be cautious. If the baby tolerates it well and there's no adverse reaction after a couple of hours, a repeated small dose can be considered. Do this once or twice daily, but avoid giving more than that without consulting a local Ayurvedic practitioner who can consider more specific details about your baby’s health. While tulsi can be beneficial, every child can respond differently based on their unique prakriti. Since phlegm is involved, ensure your baby's chest is warm and dry, and consider gentle steam sessions if appropriate - but only for a few minutes to avoid irritation. Keep breast or formula feeding consistent to maintain hydration, which is crucial in clearing phlegm. If cough and phlegm persist beyond a few days or worsen, seek professional medical advice to prevent complications. While avoiding antibiotics is understandable, monitoring the condition closely for improvements is necessary.
