I am really curious about using multani mitti on my face, but I'm not totally sure how much time I should leave it on. A friend recommended it for my acne, which has been pretty bad lately, like, I feel like I’ve tried everything else! I read that multani mitti is great for absorbing oil and detoxifying skin, but I get worried I might leave it on too long? Last week, I tried a 30-minute mask and my skin felt super tight afterward but I wasn’t sure if that was normal. Sometimes it also leaves my face feeling kinda dry, like, is that what I should expect? I guess I'm just wondering how much time multani mitti on face is safe to ensure I don’t overdo it or dry out my skin even more. Also, can I use it like, every day or is that too much? Any tips on how to blend it nicely would also be awesome! Thank you!

Indeed, Multani mitti, is a commonly used natural remedy for acne due to its effective oil-absorbing and cleansing properties. However, leaving it on too long can lead to excessive dryness and discomfort. You should ideally keep multani mitti on your face for about 15 to 20 minutes. If your skin tends to feel tight, this is often an indication it’s time to rinse it off. Leaving it for 30 minutes was a bit too long, which is why it felt super tight afterwards.

Since your skin tends to feel dry after using it, try incorporating ingredients that can balance this effect. Adding natural moisturizers like rose water or milk to Multani mitti can help prevent over-drying. Rose water is particularly beneficial for sensitive or normal skin types, while milk is great for those with and dry skin tendency. Avoid using lemon juice as it can be too harsh and make the skin more sensitive when exposed to the sun.

In terms of frequency, using multani mitti daily may be too aggressive, particularly if your skin already feels dry. I would recommend starting with two to three times a week. It’s important to monitor how your skin responds and adjust as necessary.

To make a balanced paste, consider mixing 1-2 tablespoons of multani mitti with enough rose water or milk to form a smooth paste that’s thick but spreadable. Apply an even layer on your face, avoiding the area around your eyes and mouth, as these regions are more sensitive. Once you feel it start to dry, rinse it off with lukewarm water and then finish with a gentle moisturizer to replenish any lost hydration.

Observing your skin’s reaction is key. If there’s any redness or irritation, it’s important to hold back and give your skin a break. Always follow up with an appropriate sunscreen when heading out, as natural clay masks can make the skin more susceptible to sun damage. By taking these steps, you can maximize the benefits of multani mitti while keeping your skin healthy and balanced.
