how to wash hair with multani mitti - #24536

Emma

I am really curious about how to wash hair with multani mitti because my hair has been super oily and dull lately. A friend recommended using multani mitti, and I’m all about trying natural remedies, but I have no clue how to do it right. Like, do I mix it with water? Should I add any oils or other stuff to it? Last week, I tried just mixing it with water and applying, but it ended up being quite messy, and my hair still felt greasy after. I read somewhere that multani mitti helps absorb excess oil, but maybe I used too little or too much? I can’t find a consistent method, and my hair really needs some life because I plan to meet some friends this weekend! Can someone break down how to wash hair with multani mitti step by step? Like, any tips on how to apply it properly too? I’m nervous about the whole process and just wanna see some improvement. Thanks in advance!!!

Multani Mitti, commonly known as Fuller's Earth, can indeed help address oily hair issues you're experiencing. It has natural absorbent properties that effectively manage excess oil, but the right approach to application is crucial. Here's a step-by-step guide to using multani mitti for hair washing that should help you achieve better results. First, prepare the multani mitti by taking about 3 to 4 tablespoons—this amount might vary depending on hair length. Next, add enough water to form a smooth paste; it should be neither too thick nor too runny. Lukewarm water can make the paste smoother and easier to apply. You might also consider adding a teaspoon of lemon juice for its astringent properties or a few drops of rosemary essential oil, known for stimulating hair follicles. Apply this mixture to your scalp and hair gently, starting from the roots and moving to the ends. Massage it lightly into the scalp with your fingertips to ensure it reaches every part. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15-20 minutes. Rinsing is the key part. When it’s time to wash, do so thoroughly, ensuring no residue remains—sometimes tiny bits of the mitti can stick, making the hair feel gritty. Use lukewarm water for rinsing to ensure all the multani mitti is washed out. Follow up with a mild shampoo if your hair still feels greasy, but generally, multani mitti will cleanse effectively on its own if used right. This process can be repeated once a week or as needed based on your hair’s oil production. Avoid overuse as it could lead to overdrying, especially if your hair starts to feel brittle. Modifying intake of greasy foods alongside regular hair care, adjusting to a Prakruti-balanced diet with ample fluids, could improve hair health too. Try to enjoy the process, as this can bring natural vitality to your hair!
