can female take shilajit - #24876

Mia

I am really confused about shilajit and whether it’s a good idea for females to take it. I read somewhere it's mostly discussed for men, and that made me worry. I’ve been feeling a bit fatigued and run down lately, and a friend suggested shilajit might help boost my energy levels. But, then I saw a post saying shilajit isn’t always safe for women to use, especially with hormonal imbalances, and now I’m second-guessing. My cycles have been irregular for a few months, and I can’t help but wonder if shilajit might make it worse or, like, help? I dunno. Also, I’d love to know if there are any specific dosages for women or precautions to take. Can female take shilajit? Like, is there an age limit or a time when it's better to avoid it? Any info would be really helpful!!!

Shilajit is indeed a potent rasayana (rejuvenative) in Ayurveda, and though often associated with its benefits in men, it can be suitable for women too. Its applications are broad, enhancing vitality, strength and energy due to its rich mineral content and fulvic acid, which may help in reducing fatigue. However, there are certain things to mull over regarding its use for females. Hormonal balance is crucial when considering shilajit for women, especially with your irregular cycles. It might have an impact on the endocrine system, potentially influencing hormones. It's advisable to approach it cautiously. If your fatigue is due to underlying hormonal imbalances, first addressing those might be more beneficial. An Ayurvedic consultation would help identify any dosha imbalances, like vata aggravation impacting your cycles, and tailoring the treatment. Regarding dosage, shilajit is potent, and the common recommendation is around 300-500mg per day. It’s crucial to start on the lower end, observe how your body responds, and preferably take it under guidance from a qualified practitioner. Take it mixed with warm water or milk in the morning, which enhances absorption. For women of childbearing age, avoid shilajit during pregnancy and lactation unless specifically advised otherwise by a healthcare provider. Similarly, if experiencing significant hormonal imbalance or underlying health concerns, a consultation before starting is prudent. Incorporate lifestyle changes like a balanced diet, adequate rest, and stress management – all vital components that support energy levels and overall well-being. Consuming warming, nourishing foods and avoiding excessive stimulants may aid regular cycles. Remember, Ayurveda emphasizes individualized treatment, and without understanding your specific body constitution (prakriti), it’s hard to make blanket recommendations. A professional assessment is valuable in these contexts.
