can men take shatavari - #25169

John

I am a little confused about something – can men take shatavari? I’ve been reading a lot about it lately because my buddy keeps telling me how great it is for women’s health, but then I saw some articles that mentioned its benefits for men too?? I mean, I’ve been feeling kinda low energy and just off, like my mood’s not where I want it to be. I started getting curious after hearing that it might help balance hormones or something like that. But I don't know if that means it's only for ladies. My cousin even said it supports libido in men, which honestly sounds pretty good right now! Just to add, my dad used to take it before and whenever I asked him about it, he just mumbled something and changed the topic, lol. I kinda want to give it a go, but need advice on whether can men take shatavari without any issues or if there are side effects I should be worried about? Would love to hear what you all think!

Yes, men can definitely take shatavari. Although shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) is traditionally associated with women's health, it's actually quite beneficial for men too. Shatavari is more than a herb for women's reproductive health; in Ayurveda, it's considered a rasayana, meaning it's rejuvenating and can help balance the body's systems for both men and women. For men, shatavari is known for supporting stamina and energy levels. It's thought to have a positive effect on the male reproductive system, promoting healthy spermatogenesis, and yes, even supporting libido. Shatavari may help in balancing testosterone levels by supporting the body’s internal balance. Regarding your low energy and mood concerns, this adaptogenic herb helps in reducing stress and promoting a sense of calmness, which could be beneficial for overall mood enhancement. When it comes to taking shatavari, it's usually consumed in the form of churna (powder), capsules, or as a liquid extract. If you’re considering taking shatavari, you might want to start with about 500 mg to 1 gram of shatavari powder mixed with warm milk or water, once or twice daily, but it’s essential to adapt the dose to your needs since individual reactions can vary. Please do consult a healthcare provider or a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to determine the right dosage for you, particularly if you have existing health issues or are on other medications. Regarding potential side effects, shatavari is generally safe for most individuals when taken in moderate amounts. However, it's important to be cautious if you're allergic to asparagus, since shatavari belongs to the same plant family. Also, excessive use might lead to digestive disturbances or increased mucus production. So, keep an eye on how your body responds. Remember, Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of understanding your unique constitution and imbalances, so personalized advice is always ideal. If any adverse effects are noticed or persisted, it would be wise to stop taking it and consult with a healthcare professional.
