Ravinder Kaur

My wife had a fracture in L3 spine on9th oct 2024. Although fracture is healed naturally with bed rest but since then she is not able to walk. She has severe pain in her legs. She is diabetic from last 30 years.Doctors prescribed nerve conduction test. The report showed weakness in her nerves or Diabetic neuropathy and suggestedIVIG treatment. She was given Globucel injections but in spite of these injections which were given between 13th June to 17th June 2025 there is no improvement and has severe pain in her legs and not able to walk even with the help of Walker. So if you have any medicine please suggest. Regards Harvinder Singh 9811266770

In addressing your wife’s diabetic neuropathy and post-fracture pain through Ayurveda, it's essential to focus on balance of Vata dosha, which governs the nerves. For a condition this complex, integrating Ayurvedic treatments alongside conventional medicine might offer her some relief. In terms of diet, maintaining a stable blood sugar level is vital for managing diabetes and potentially easing neuropathy. Encourage her to consume warm, cooked meals more often than raw, avoiding foods that are too spicy, oily, or processed. Meals should include whole grains like barley and quinoa, lentils, and a variety of colorful vegetables. Use kitchen herbs like turmeric and fenugreek, known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties – half teaspoon of turmeric in warm milk or water can be beneficial. Practice daily gentle oil massage with warm sesame oil on her legs, and back, using gentle strokes to promote circulation and alleviate Vata imbalance. The massage should be followed by a warm bath or shower. It’s important to keep her body warm, as excess cold can aggravate Vata and worsen discomfort. In terms of herbal supplements, Ashwagandha is known for its nerve-strengthening and stress-reducing capabilities. Consulting with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner can help determine the appropriate dose. Shilajit may also be considered for strengthening the body and managing chronic conditions like diabetes. Regarding lifestyle, ensure she avoids sitting or lying in one position for too long. Gentle stretching exercises, breathing techniques like Anulom Vilom, and yoga poses within her comfort can support nerve health and improve mobility. However, consult with her primary care doctor to ensure that these activities are safe, given her medical condition. Immediate intervention in case of intensifying symptoms is essential as her situation requires careful monitoring. If there’s no improvement or symptoms worsen, continue following up with her doctor to explore different medical options initiated by them.
