Doctors’ responses
First, it’s essential to recognize that the anxiety your son feels is affecting him deeply. According to Ayurveda, this could be related to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, particularly Prana Vata, which governs the mind and nervous system. This imbalance might have been exacerbated by the stress of hospitalization and the subsequent concern with his heart rate.
To address this, gentle lifestyle modifications can be effective. Encourage your son to develop a consistent daily routine, aligning his activities with natural cycles. Try to ensure he goes to bed around 9-10 pm and wakes up by 6-7 am. This rhythm helps in balancing the Vata dosha and grounding the mind.
Diet plays a crucial role in stabilizing Vata. Serve warm, nourishing meals including soups, stews, and cooked grains. Add ghee or oil to his meals to enhance the calming effect. Avoid cold, dry, and raw foods that can aggravate Vata. A gentle herbal tea made with Tulsi (holy basil) and Ashwagandha can help reduce anxiety symptoms. Tulsi has adaptogenic properties and Ashwagandha is known to enhance resilience to stress.
Practices such as Abhyanga (self-massage) with warm sesame oil could be beneficial. Massage daily before a bath or shower to induce calmness. Encourage simple breathing exercises or meditation. Start with 5-10 mins of Anulom Vilom, a form of alternate nostril breathing which can help reduce the heart race.
If anxiety persists, seek guidance from a healthcare provider experienced in both modern and Ayurvedic medicine to explore further treatment options. Also engage, him in his interests gradually, inviting friends over may help break the isolation. Always remain observant of any fresh, unusual symptoms and follow up with your regular doctor as necessary.
Addressing your son’s situation requires understanding the link between his symptoms and any underlying imbalances in dosha, particularly focusing on vata dosha which governs movement, including that of the mind and nervous system. It seems like his anxiety and fear might be linked to a vata imbalance, possibly exacerbated by residual stress or memory from his previous illness.
First, bring stability to his routine, which is essential for balancing vata. Encourage a regular sleep pattern by ensuring he sleeps and wakes at the same time each day. Warm bath before bed can be soothing for vata and help him wind down.
In terms of diet, recommend warm, nourishing foods that ground vata, such as root vegetables, cooked grains like rice or oats, and hearty soups. Avoid processed foods, and cold or dry foods as they can aggravate vata. Also, encourage him to sip warm water throughout the day.
Meditation and simple breathing exercises can be highly beneficial, helping to calm his mind and regulate his heart rate naturally. Practicing deep breathing (nadi shodhana) can be particularly helpful and is simple enough for a 15-year-old to learn.
Since his symptoms persist, consulting a professional specializing in mental health is obligatory to ensure there’s no underlying issue that needs attention. Make sure his physical heart health and general wellbeing are continually monitored by a healthcare provider, especially given the anxiety surrounding his heart rate.
Utilizing gentle herbal remedies such as Ashwagandha or Brahmi could support his system in managing stress, but only use these under supervision of a qualified practitioner to ensure safety, particularly given his young age.
Give Mentat-DS syrup 2tsp three times daily after food with water. Brahmi vati 0-0-1 at bedtime with water Nasya with Brahmi grith 2 drops in both nostril once daily. Light head massage with Brahmi oil twice weekly. Should be encouraged to go out and play where surrounded by nature. Let him cultivate hobbies of his choice. Follow up after 1 month
