PUJ calculus treatment - #3106

Anonymously

I was diagnosed with a kidney stone in the PUJ (pelvi-ureteric junction) during my recent scan, and I want to know if there’s an effective puj calculus treatment in Ayurveda. Can anyone share remedies or treatments for managing this condition naturally? The pain is intermittent but severe when it comes, usually on one side of my lower back. I’ve been told that the stone is small, so I might pass it naturally, but I’d like to speed up the process. Does Ayurveda offer any puj calculus treatment that can dissolve or help expel the stone? If anyone has tried Ayurvedic puj calculus treatment, how long did it take to see results? Are there specific herbs or tonics that are especially effective? I’ve read about gokshura and punarnava being used for kidney stones – are these part of the treatment? Any advice on diet or lifestyle changes to prevent future kidney stones would also be helpful. Should I avoid certain foods or drink more herbal teas?

In Ayurveda, managing a kidney stone, especially one located at the pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ), typically involves using natural remedies that help dissolve the stone, reduce pain, and facilitate its expulsion from the body. Gokshura and punarnava are indeed commonly used herbs for kidney stones. Gokshura is known for its diuretic properties, helping to increase urine flow and flush out toxins, while punarnava has anti-inflammatory and diuretic qualities that can help reduce swelling and ease the passage of stones. Other herbs like varuna, safaid musli, and bhumi amla can also be beneficial for promoting kidney health and breaking down small stones. The treatment for PUJ calculus in Ayurveda focuses not only on herbal remedies but also on lifestyle and dietary changes to support kidney function and prevent future stones. To help expel the stone, drinking herbal teas made from ingredients like coriander, basil, and barley water can be effective, as they promote hydration and facilitate the movement of stones through the urinary tract. It’s important to stay well-hydrated, as dehydration can increase the risk of stone formation and make passing a stone more difficult. In terms of diet, it’s recommended to avoid foods that are high in oxalates (such as spinach, beets, and nuts) and reduce salt and animal protein intake, as these can contribute to stone formation. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, along with proper hydration, can help prevent the formation of new stones. Avoiding excessive intake of caffeine, alcohol, and sugary drinks is also advised, as these can dehydrate the body and worsen the condition. As for the timeline, Ayurvedic treatments may take several weeks to months to show noticeable results, and it’s important to be patient while using these remedies. The stone may be passed naturally with consistent use of these herbs, but it’s crucial to monitor the condition closely. If you experience severe pain or complications, it’s best to consult with both an Ayurvedic practitioner and a urologist to ensure the proper treatment plan.
